If you have a background or interest in planning urban and rural communities, environmental conservation and sustainable development, than check out GIS and Urban Planning. This program focuses on the use of land and resources in rural, urban and suburban communities. You'll learn how to design communities, plan and co-ordinate land development projects, build and maintain geographic databases, analyze land resource data and prepare graphic presentations. You'll also learn to use Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer Assisted Design (CAD) and graphic presentation technologies. And get hands-on industry experience, with two paid co-op work terms! Plus, you'll have the opportunity to travel to Italy to study some of the world's most historic cities!
When you graduate, you'll be ready to work in all levels of government planning agencies, land development and building companies, land resource companies as well as planning and engineering consultants. If you wish to continue your studies, you may be eligible for admission to the Urban and Regional Planning degree program at Ryerson University or the Bachelor of Environmental Planning degree program at Griffith University, Queensland, Australia.
