Creatures of the Deep Surface for John Zubick Ltd.
Students from Fanshawe College's Fine Art program unveiled their latest metal creations
for John Zubick Ltd. at the Marconi Club on Tuesday, April 27, 2010.
'Creatures of the Deep', transformed from thousands of pounds of tin, copper, aluminum and steel donated by John Zubick Ltd. were judged on creativity and design.
Bruce Zubick, co-owner of John Zubick Ltd; Patrick Thiebert, retired Fanshawe College faculty member; University of Western Ontario professor David Merritt; and Controller Gord Hume determined which project best reflects this year's theme. The winners - Christine Flemming and Jessy Donn-Barkley, who designed a 10-foot-tall seahorse - received a cheque for $1,000, donated by Zubick.

In addition to providing the scrap metal for this project, John Zubick Ltd. has also supported this initiative for the past six years by donating manpower, safety equipment and welding advice to the students, many of whom have never welded before.
The judging and celebration, open to the public, took place at the Marconi Club.
"This is a remarkable experience for my students," said second-year Fine Art professor Paul Dreossi, himself an artist and metal worker. "I am sure we are one of the only colleges in Canada making large scale metal sculptures as part of their curriculum."
Fanshawe College would like to thank John Zubick Ltd. co-owners Matt and Bruce Zubick for their generous and ongoing support of this project.
