Falcons Women Capture Cross Country Gold

Fanshawe Cross Country named top overall college team at the 2008 OCAA Provincial Cross Country Championships

The Fanshawe Falcons Cross Country team represented the College well at this year's OCAA Provincial Cross Country Championships on October 25, 2008, in Ancaster, Ontario. The women's team captured their first gold medal since the '96-'97 season. Tineke deJong claimed the individual silver medal for the women running the 5km race in 21:36, closely followed by teammate Becky Pieterson, with individual bronze medal in a time of 21:42.

Medal Hauling! Fanshawe Cross Country team wins women's gold, men's silver, and top cross country team award at the OCAA 2008 Provincial Cross Country Championships in Ancaster, Ontario.

On the men's side, it was a close race between their rivals at Conestoga College. The Falcon men were able to take home their fourth consecutive provincial medal, winning silver. The top male runners for Fanshawe, Mike Scipio and John Mason finished the 8km race in 5th and 6th place, respectively, with times of 29:32 and 29:37.

The Falcons are now preparing for the CCAA National Championships in Kingston, Ontario to be held on November 7 and 8, 2008.

The Falcons Cross Country team will try to win the only medal not in the trophy case - national gold!
