Fall Convocation Ceremonies Celebrated at All Fanshawe Campuses
On Wednesday, October 19, 2011, family and friends of Fanshawe graduates gathered with community and government leaders to celebrate the graduation of students from the Oxford County campus. For the first time, the ceremony was held at Maranatha Christian Reformed Church in Woodstock.
Valedictorians Angela Ponting, Practical Nursing; Brett Bean, Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technician; and Steve Smith, Police Foundations, shared their college experiences with their fellow students and guests. Ms. Ponting was also the recipient of an award for highest academic achievement.

On Thursday, November 3 and Friday, November 4, 2011, more than 1,300 Fanshawe College graduates received their degrees, diplomas and certificates during three fall convocation ceremonies at the London Campus.
Guest speakers included Mr. Robert Hurst, former President of CTV News and Current Affairs; Dr. Shanthi Radcliffe, founder of the London InterCommunity Health Centre and Ms. Ruth Gates-Jensen, former Vice-President of Business Development at Fanshawe College.
Ms. Gates-Jensen was presented with a Fanshawe College Honorary Diploma at the ceremony on November 4. She retired from Fanshawe after an outstanding 31-year career.

The following awards were presented during these ceremonies:
- Benjamin Postma - Governor General's Academic Medal and Dean's Academic Award for the Faculty of Business;
- Bryan Rehlinger - Dean's Academic Award for the Faculty of Health Sciences and Human Services;
- Annette Cattle - Dean's Academic Award for Continuing Education;
- Tim Stevenson - Dean's Academic Award for the Faculty of Technology.
On Friday, November 18, 2011, Fanshawe College's St. Thomas/Elgin campus celebrated convocation with the family and friends of more than 200 graduates from diploma and certificate programs.

"Graduation is referred to as "commencement' because it marks not an ending but a beginning - sometimes a second beginning - in the careers and lives of many of our graduates as they move out into the communities and put their learning to work," said Donna Gates, Chair of the St. Thomas/Elgin campus. "We are proud of our graduates and look forward to continuing to work with them in the coming years as our colleagues, co-workers, and community leaders."
Local business leader, Mike Vecchio addressed the graduates. Mike's parents Bill and Sandra both worked for Fanshawe College for a combined 60 years, making his participation in this ceremony very special to him.
On Friday, November 25, 2011, Fanshawe College's James N. Allan campus celebrated convocation with the family and friends of more than 190 graduates from 13 diploma and certificate programs. Ms. Sandra Baleka, Social Service Worker, was presented with the R.C. Hamilton Award at this ceremony.

Valedictorian Sandra Baleka shared her experiences with the 2011 graduates and guests. After many years working as a financial and insolvency counsellor, Sandra returned to school in 2009. On this evening she graduated from the Social Services Worker diploma program.
"We are excited to celebrate this important milestone with our students and their families," said Fanshawe College president Howard Rundle. "Our graduates are well prepared to thrive in their chosen field and their graduation marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter in their lives. We know their Fanshawe qualifications will stand them in good stead as they enter the workforce."
