Fanshawe Manager of Athletics Named to 2011 Mayor's New Year's Honour List

Mike LindsayFanshawe College is pleased to announce that Mike Lindsay (right), Manager of Athletics, has been named to the 2011 Mayor's New Year's Honour List in recognition of his contribution to sports in London.

Mike has worked in Athletics at Fanshawe since 1972 and was appointed Manager of Athletics in December of 2000. He has also held various leadership positions with the Ontario Colleges Athletics Association (OCAA), serving as President from 2003-2005. He was named Canadian Colleges Athletic Association Athletic Director of the Year for 2009-2010.

"Mike has worked tirelessly for Fanshawe College's student athletic program and under his leadership, our student athletes have excelled nation-wide," said Cathie Auger, Vice-President, Student Support. "He has fostered many partnerships and promoted sport in the community. We are very proud of Mike on this significant and well-deserved honour."

In addition to his work at Fanshawe and with the OCAA, he has contributed to regional sports programs, including the 2001 Canadian Summer Games Committee, the London Beefeater Football Club Board, the London Indoor Soccer Task Force, The St. Thomas Jr. B Stars Hockey Club, and the Ontario Modern Pentathlon Championship Committee. Mike has coached teams in a variety of sports, including hockey, soccer and basketball. He also served as a School Board Trustee in Elgin County from 1996-1998.

Mike will be recognized along with other Honour List members at the London City Council meeting on Monday, January 24, 2011. Other Londoners have earned the award in categories including Diversity and Race Relations, Arts, Environment, Heritage, Housing, Humanitarianism, Persons With Disabilities, and Safety and Crime Prevention.

Mike was nominated for the Mayor's New Year's Honour List by Bill Smith, Director of Sales for Sports Management International.
