Fanshawe Paramedics Win Hockey Tournament
On January 28 and 29, 2009, a team of Fanshawe College paramedic students and their program coordinator traveled to Chatham-Kent for the Clarence Lenting 3rd Annual Memorial Hockey Tournament. Of the three scheduled games, the first was missed by both Fanshawe and the opposing team due to weather conditions. The next two games were played and won against St.Clair College and Lambton College, respectively. Essex Windsor EMS City was the team to beat in the semi-finals, and Fanshawe did just that with a 6-1 score.
The Fanshawe College team was then met by Waterloo EMS in the finals. The hard-fought game was tied 1-1 after the second period, but Fanshawe out-hustled Waterloo in the third with a final score of 4-1.
The team included nine second-year paramedic students, five first-years and Mark Hunter, the Paramedic program coordinator. Fanshawe was the only team two years running to have a female on the ice at all times, as requested by the tournament guidelines. This is also Fanshawe College's second year in a row to claim victory over the tournament. Congratulations go out to the team from the staff and students at Fanshawe College for representing us well and bringing home the win!
