Fanshawe College employees can sign up for a Fitness 101 membership and use the private facility to get a total body workout in as little as 20 minutes. Thirteen all-new hydraulic exercise machines provide a total body circuit that suits beginners and those seeking light to moderate exercise.
"We really want to remove the barriers Fanshawe employees may feel," says Fitness 101 manager Doug Weaver. "One of the concerns many people have expressed over the years is the desire for a private space where they can get a time-effective workout."
Weaver notes that Fitness 101 also provides many other conveniences to employees, many of whom simply may not be aware of the range of services available to them.
"We offer employees the option to pay for their membership by payroll deduction," Weaver says. "We have showers available to clean up before heading to work, and everyone gets a personal assessment along with a personal program design tailored to support their workout goals."
As an added bonus, Fitness 101 members are also entitled to attend group exercise free with their membership. Weaver says these added extras are important for employees because while most people are aware of the benefits of healthy living, not everyone understands how easy it is to achieve an active lifestyle without significantly altering their schedule.
"For many people, the thought of 'going to the gym' automatically means inconvenience: having to find time in their busy day, making plans to drop off or pick up the kids, postponing dinner for the family, and so on," he says. "With the new on-site employee workout room, folks can spend 20 minutes working out over a lunch break or in the morning (we open at 6am on weekdays), clean up here, and head to the office without interrupting their work day."
During the summer, Fitness 101 is offering a free two-week pass for employees who would like to test the health club including the employee room. Employees who are interested can contact 519-452-4477 for more information.
