Improving the Image of Nursing in Long-Term Care
Guest article by Shelley Sheedy, Administrator, Miramichi Lodge, Pembroke, Ontario.
One of the biggest challenges in healthcare is ensuring there are enough nurses. Recruitment of staff to work in long-term care (LTC) is an even bigger challenge as compared to other healthcare settings due to the many false assumptions that exist. The purpose of this article is to identify the myths and to suggest some ways that the public can assist in both dispelling these myths and improving the recruitment to LTC. This information is important because it is likely that you or a family member will require LTC services at some time. I believe we have a collective responsibility to ensure that the care will be there.
