London Campus Internal Streets Renamed
August 8, 2008
Fanshawe is pleased to announce that the College has begun renaming streets on the London campus. The installation of new street name signs began in early August and we expect that the majority of the new signs will be installed by Friday, August 8, 2008.Although the roads remain privately owned by the College, the street renaming follows rigorous protocols and approvals from the City of London to select the names. As a result, the City will now include the new street names on its street inventory and maps which are referenced by map companies such as MapQuest and Google Maps. Having the roads added to the City's inventory will enable improved wayfinding and directions for emergency services, including police, fire and paramedics, as well as for campus visitors.
In addition, the City, as part of this initiative, will be issuing a street address number for each campus building, which will also assist emergency services and visitors to locate buildings on campus more easily.
The street names have been selected to be consistent with the vision statement and corporate identity of the College and to avoid conflicts with existing streets in the city. The new street names are based on several themes. Themes include stakeholders of the College such as students and alumni. Colvin Court recognizes the first President of Fanshawe College, Dr. James A. Colvin. Apprentice Drive is an example of a name that reflects its location on campus, near the technology facilities that house a large number of apprentices.
A new campus map is attached for your reference and convenience (PDF*). Please assist us with acquainting the College community with the new street names by using the new map wherever possible. Thank you!
