New Applied Research and Innovation Magazine Launched at Fanshawe
October 31, 2008
Innovation and applied research projects conducted by Fanshawe employees will be showcased in a new College publication debuting this week.researchfanshawe magazine was created to provide a window into some of the interesting and exciting projects going on at the College, says Greg Weiler, Dean of Applied Research, Innovation & University Partnerships (ARIUP).
"The purpose of researchfanshawe is to showcase and celebrate our achievements. We hope that awareness of what's going on within the institution will inspire other employees to become involved with these types of activities. It's all about our people. Examples of their actual projects should provide people with a better understanding of just what we mean when we talk about applied research and innovation. All in all, we are hopeful this will help grow an innovation culture at Fanshawe College, attract new external partners and facilitate enhanced professional development and learning opportunities for employees and students," says Weiler.
The 24-page debut issue focuses on funded projects, the trend by funding agencies toward greater support of college research, information on activity at Fanshawe and basic how-tos for budding researchers. Targeted at employees with an interest in innovation, researchers, prospective researchers and external audiences, it will be distributed to other colleges, universities, the private sector and municipal, and government officials and posted to the Research Fanshawe website (www.fanshawec.ca/research).
Plans call for researchfanshawe to appear three times a year. The publication schedule is being finalized, but it is expected the next issue will appear sometime in the winter of 2009. Feedback and story or photo suggestions are welcome, and can be sent to the editor at research@fanshawe.ca.
