New Chair for School of Information Technology

August 22, 2008
I am very pleased to announce that Kevin Weaver will be the new Chair of the School of Information Technology. Kevin will start on August 25, 2008.

Kevin has recently worked as a product development/project manager for two local IT firms in London. His duties have included defining software requirements, generating work plans, developing schedules, managing development teams, participating with senior management in marketing and strategic business development decisions and establishing and maintaining business partner relationships.

Prior to working as a development and project manager, Kevin was a professor of geographic information systems (GIS) and program coordinator for two program areas at Sault College. He also taught at a nearby university. In addition to the teaching and curriculum development responsibilities of a professor, Kevin worked with local advisory committees, collaborated with industry and government to prepare and launch student research projects and engaged in promotional activities to attract students to his programs, including visits to Ontario high schools and attending trade shows. While at Sault College, he also chaired a Career Pathways Curriculum Review Committee that included representatives from public and separate school boards and the College which was convened to outline specific pathways into college courses and identify curriculum overlaps and gaps to be addressed.

Kevin has earned a B.A. Honours in Geography from Wilfrid Laurier University, a GIS Applications Specialist Post-Diploma Certificate from Sir Sandford Fleming College and an M.Sc. in Geography from the University of Toronto. He has worked as a GIS consultant and has authored or co-authored several trade articles and text book chapters. He also contributed to the development of a Boreal Forest Landscape Dynamics Simulator (ask him about it!).

He tries to regularly attend TechAlliance's IT Project Management Peer-to-Peer group meetings to interact, learn and share experiences related to the IT industry in London.

Kevin is married and has two young children and enjoys coaching soccer, baseball and hockey.

I invite you to please welcome Kevin to the College when you meet him.
