School of Applied Science and Technology

I am pleased to announce the following new hires to the School of Applied Science and Technology.
Michael Zhang
Michael will be joining us as a professor in the Electrical, Electromechanical and Manufacturing programs. Michael holds a Certificate of Qualification as a residential and industrial electrician, a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science from the University of Windsor, a Bachelor's in Electronic Technology from Wuhan University in Hubei China, as well as a Master's Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Wayne State in Detroit.
Michael has extensive domestic and international work experience, having worked at Formet and Wescast Industries as well as at the Tianjin Electric Power Corporation.
Michael has taught as a full-time professor at Confederation College as well as teaching non-full time at Fanshawe in post-secondary programs in our School and Continuing Education. It is worthy to note that during his work at Fanshawe, Michael was the first Canadian instructor certified by Fanuc Robotics.
Louis Jraige
Louis will be joining us as a professor in the Electrical, Electromechanical and Manufacturing programs.
Louis holds a Certificate of Qualification as a residential and industrial electrician, an Electrical Engineering Technology Diploma from St. Clair College, and a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Technology from Wayne State University. He is a Certified Engineering Technologist as well as Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario.
Louis has extensive industry experience, coming to us from Valiant Machine and Tool in Windsor, and having also worked at Elring Klinger Sealing Systems.
Louis has extensive teaching experience at St. Clair College as a non-full time professor in the School of Skilled Trades as well as in Continuing Education.

Labour Relations

I wish to advise everyone that Linda Watson currently the Assistant in Labour Relations, within the Human Resources Department will be retiring from Fanshawe College on August 31, 2011. Linda leaves us with over 30 years of service in the Human Resources Department at Fanshawe. We'd like to congratulate Linda on reaching this milestone and wish her well in retirement and the new experiences that lie ahead.
At the same time, please note that Lisa Brown from Client Services has joined Labour Relations as the Labour Relations Assistant for the next several months as we define the structure of the work. Lisa can be reached at extension 4656.

We are pleased to announce that Kevin Nash will be joining the Human Resources function in the position of Return to Work Coordinator, effective September 6. Kevin, a graduate of Fanshawe College, brings with him experience in the private sector in matters relating to return to work programs as well as WSIB management. As well as having worked at Formet Industries in St. Thomas, where his responsibilities included return to work management, he most recently held the position of Manager of Health, Safety and Environment at Jones Packaging here in London. Kevin and his family live in London where he spends much of his free time coaching children's soccer. He will be located in the Human Resources offices in F3011. Please join us in welcoming Kevin to Fanshawe College.

Please join me in welcoming Julie Knights-Thompson, Corrine Ann DuHasky, Robin Frkovic, Catherine Nanton, Andrew Murray, and Patricia D. Pemberton to the School of Human Services as full-time faculty. Julie Knights-Thompson has a graduate degree in Social Work and a Graduate Certificate in Autism. Julie has been teaching part-time at Fanshawe for the past year. Prior to coming to the College Julie worked in the field since 1997, with most of her career established at the Thames Valley District School Board. Julie will be teaching in the Social Service Worker and the Autism Programs. Cori DuHasky has over twelve years of experience with the Autism Spectrum Disorders. She has been with Fanshawe since 2007 as partial load professor, field placement liaison and acting coordinator for the Autism and Behavioral Science Graduate Certificate Program. Cori has a Developmental Service Worker Diploma, a Degree in Disabilities Studies and recently completed her Master's Degree in Education. Cori will be teaching in the Human Services Foundations Program. Robin Frkovic joins the Developmental Services Worker Program. Robin has been teaching at Fanshawe as a partial load instructor since 2007. She has taught in the Developmental Services Worker Program, Human Services Foundations, and the Autism Program. She holds a Master' Degree in Education and has a Graduate Certificate in Autism. Since 2001 Robin has worked in a variety of settings with children who have special needs and their families. Catherine Nanton will be teaching in the Police Foundations and Private Security and Investigation programs. Catherine has her M.B.A. She has thirty-two years of experience in adult education and training. She started her career with the Peel Regional Police Service. The last six years Catherine has been consulting through her company “Interactive Training Solutions”. Andrew Murray will be teaching in the Police Foundations and Private Security and Investigation programs. Andrew has a Bachelor of Arts Degree and joins us after serving on the London Police Force for ten years. During his tenure with the Police Force he worked in a number of areas, including: Community Orientated Response, Investigation Response Unit, Emergency Response Section, Recruiting Unit and Use of Force Training Unit. Trisch Pemberton joined us in May and is working as a Professor in the new Applied Degree Program in Early Childhood Education. Trisch has her Masters in Education. Prior to coming to Fanshawe, Trisch worked part time at Conestoga and full time as an Early Childhood Education Teacher. Trisch brings with her research skills with a special interest in Leadership in Early Childhood Education.

Acting Chair, School of Language and Liberal Studies

I am pleased to announce that Denise Blay has accepted the role of Acting Chair, School of Language and Liberal Studies, effective August 22nd, 2011. Denise holds a Bachelor's degree in Language & Literature and a Master's degree in Journalism (both from UWO). Denise has been at the college for just over 20 years. During that time, she coordinated business programs for six years at the Oxford County campus (Human Resources and Business Administrative Systems) and coordinated communication courses in the School of Language & Liberal Studies for 12 years. In 2009, she assumed the role of General Education Coordinator and liaison for the Applied Degree Programs. She also helped organize the CALL (College Association for Language & Literacy) conference for teachers from around the province. Denise has always demonstrated active involvement in the college community. During the early '90s, she was a facilitator in the CEDP (College Educator Development Program) and presented workshops on various topics to orient new teachers and help them prepare for success in the classroom. She has been a recent member of College Council, and currently sits on the Committee of Review to assess student appeals. Please join me in welcoming Denise into her new role.

New Assistant Manager, Career Services, Co-operative Education and Community Employment Services

I am pleased to announce that Darlene O'Neill has accepted the position of Assistant Manager, Career Services, Co-operative Education and Community Employment Services. In this role, Darlene will focus on ensuring that our efforts to provide employment support services for Fanshawe students, both on campus and off, are of the highest quality possible. In addition to these responsibilities, Darlene will manage our Employment Ontario contracted efforts off campus where the full range of employment services are provided for the community at large by Fanshawe staff at our Community Employment Services sites. Darlene comes to us from Halifax where she has been working for the past 5 years with Nova Scotia Community College, progressing from Career Counsellor to Program Coordinator in the Student Success Department. Prior to that, for approximately 20 years, Darlene worked in Maritime Forces Atlantic where she moved through a number of increasingly responsible roles related to employment, culminating with her position as Senior Human Resource Business Manager. She brings with her a great of deal of knowledge, both in the theory and practice of providing effective service to persons wanting to improve their labour market connection and to employers seeking qualified workers. Darlene has achieved a Masters of Education (Adult Education), a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) and a Career Development certificate as well as several related certificates of training. For her excellent work in the past, Darlene has been recipient of several awards including the Federal Government National Managers Community Leadership Award and the Department of National Defense Human Resources Leadership Award. Darlene will take up her new position at Fanshawe beginning August 29th and will be located primarily in D1063. As time permits, a series of introductory meetings will be scheduled. Acting Chair, Continuing Education with the Centre for Community Education and Training Services

I am delighted to announce that Rosanna Stumpo-Bal has accepted the position of Acting Chair, Continuing Education with the Centre for Community Education and Training Services, effective August 15, 2011. Rosanna holds a Master of Business Administration Degree, Bachelor of Arts Degree (Language & Literature), and Bachelor of Education (Secondary, Business & English). Since joining Fanshawe College in 2000, Rosanna has led programming in Continuing Education, most recently as Manager of Access Studies and Academic Upgrading. In addition to her over ten years of Academic Management experience at Fanshawe College, Rosanna was an Account Manager with GE Capital, and prior to that, served as Associate Dean with Toronto School of Business - International Business Schools. Rosanna's teaching experiences have included both face-to-face and online courses in Continuing Education. Rosanna has played key leadership roles in various College initiatives, including currently serving as our WSIB Contract Manager, and in recent years as a CIITE Steering Committee Member; Rosanna has also been active in the College's Strategic Enrolment Management initiative, serving as Co-Chair of the Non-Direct Persona Team and as a member of the Integrated Marketing & Recruitment Team. Please join me in welcoming Debbie Goll back to F3011 in her new role as Junior Accountant - Accounts Payable. Deb brings with her 10 years experience as a Financial Analyst with Emco and two different temporary placements within Fanshawe College. She has experience in account reconciliation, banking process, financial reporting, payables and receivables and our own Datatel systems and processes. Deb is a graduate of Fanshawe College's Business Administration Program and has earned her CGA designation in 2004. Please join me in welcoming Deb to her new position. Deb will be responsible for scheduling and creating the cheque runs and electronic payments; pulling samples for review for both expense claims and p-card claims, creating journal entries and reconciling the AP sub-ledger as well as many other duties. Her extension will be 4607 and her start date is August 15, 2011.

It is with great pleasure that I make the following staff announcements:
Margaret Warren has accepted the full-time permanent position of Procurement Specialist - Purchasing effective August 10, 2011. Margaret comes to us with over 15 years experience in procurement in both public and private capacities. She has spent seven years with London Health Sciences as a Purchasing Agent, and is currently employed with the MedBuy Corporation as a Documentation/Contracting Administrator. Her experience includes drafting RFx documents and negotiated RFP documents, contract review and negotiation, de-briefings, writing policy and procedures and business process analysis. In her role as Purchasing Agent for ZF Heavy Duty Steering, she was responsible for managing the supply chain for goods worth 40 million dollars.
Margaret will be assisting the department as we continue to improve processes to meet BPS Supply Chain Guidelines and Ministry Directives. Her extension is 3998.

Wendy Bradburn has accepted the full time permanent position of Customer Service Representative - Accounts Payable effective August 2, 2011. Wendy returned to the department in August of 2009 and since then has worked in 2 different roles working with invoices, expense claims, cheque requisitions and p-card claims. Needless to say, Wendy has been of great assistance to the efficient and effective running of the department as we have met the challenges of staff absences and retirements and of course... year-end. Wendy graduated in 2009 with an Office Administration Certificate from Fanshawe College and brings added experience at Fanshawe as she has worked for the Faculty of Media, Art and Design and the Registrar's area. Her experience in private industry includes work as an administrative assistance to two local companies and AP clerk experience with Hay Stationery.
Wendy will be responsible for a range of vendor invoices and the entry of expense vouchers in addition to other related Accounts Payable roles. Her extension is 4753.
