Summer Student Wins Apple iPad
First-year Fanshawe student Jon Pilon has won an Apple iPad for providing feedback on the new myFanshawe student portal. Pilon's name was drawn from nearly 100 ballots, all entered on behalf of summer students who submitted feedback after reviewing myFanshawe in its preliminary stages.

Pilon, who already has an iPod and a MacBook Pro, comes by his love of Apple products naturally.
"Everyone in my family uses Apple computers, including my 80-year-old grandmother who just started using a computer 2 years ago."
On a break from his summer classes, Pilon was helping relatives build a fence while the draw took place on the morning of Wednesday, June 30, 2010. When he used his mobile device to check email during a mid-morning break, he was sceptical about the notification in his inbox.
"At first I thought it was a spam message - you know, like the generic ones that say 'congratulations you're a winner' - until I saw the Fanshawe College name in the email."
Excited about the possibility for bragging rights in his class, the first-year Computer Systems Technology student made plans to pick up the iPad that same day. Bob Beatty, Fanshawe's Chief Information Officer, and Gord Worrall, Manager of Information Systems Services, presented the iPad to Pilon in H Building where hours earlier Dr. Lane Trotter, Vice President, Academic had drawn his name as the winner.
"I couldn't believe it," he said. "I knew there was a contest to win an iPad, and I'll admit that was part of my motivation for giving feedback, but I never expected I would be the one to win it."
