Microcredential Series Description

The Trades Management Microcredential Series is a specialized and compact program that is designed to provide prospective learners the targeted skills and knowledge in trades management. The series consists of six (6) microcredentials including, Business Planning for the Trades, Financial Literacy for the Trades, Marketing a Trades Business, Labour Recruitment and Retention, Material Management and Costing, and Site Safety Management. This microcredential series caters to professionals in trades-related fields looking to expand their knowledge running a current or future business.

BUSI-1230Business Planning for the Trades
Business Planning for the Trades provides learners with the foundational knowledge to create a business plan for the successful operation and growth of their trades-business. Through this microcredential, planning documents and strategies will be developed with each learner to assist in the construction of business goals, target audience(s), an analysis of market and competition, determining pricing and financial strategies, as well as outlining marketing and operational plans for start-up or growth. Each learner will complete this microcredential with a draft designed to improve business function and brand recognition. Learning Outcomes: 1. Explain the purpose of each component of business planning 2. Apply strategies, research, and goals into each component of the business plan 3. FINA-1068Financial Literacy for the Trades
Financial Literacy for the Trades will provide learners with the ability to assess and update balance sheets and income statements, which are essential for trades professionals to effectively manage their business, helping them make informed financial decisions, and achieve long-term financial success. The microcredential includes budgeting, bookkeeping, and accounting basics such as taxation and financial risk management. By effectively managing revenue, expenditures, and taxes, participants of the program will be able to contribute to the growth and long-term financial success of their small business. Learning Outcomes: 1. Apply financial principles used to manage a balance sheet and an income statement 2. Apply financial knowledge and principles to make decisions and solve problems 3. By implementing strategies taught in this microcredential, participants will be able to enhance their recruitment efforts, retain skilled workers, and build a sustainable workforce to meet the demands of their industries. Site Safety Management aims to create a safe and healthy work environment by proactively identifying and mitigating hazards, promoting safety awareness, and maintaining regulatory compliance. Participants will be able to implement measures and protocols to ensure the safety and well-being of workers, visitors, and the general public. By effectively implementing site safety management it will reduce costs associated with injuries, as well as making compliance easier and decreases the time demanded by safety procedures.
