Support or create scholarships, awards and bursaries

A scholarship or award is given to students who excel academically and show exceptional talent in their chosen area of study.

A bursary is a sum of money awarded to students based on an assessment of demonstrated financial need.

When students are able to focus on their studies and do not have to worry about money, they have a greater likelihood of success in their program. Your gift toward a scholarship award or bursary will have a direct and immediate impact on the lives of Fanshawe students. Thanks to our generous donors, hundreds of students receive the gift of education each year based on academic merit and financial need.

If you wish to establish a scholarship award or bursary, please contact us at 519-452-4112 or giving@fanshawec.ca

Leave a gift through your will or life insurance

Planning a future gift is an important way to shape your philanthropic legacy, and it can also be a key part of your estate planning. There are many options available, such as leaving a gift in your will or making a gift through life insurance. We recommend you discuss your options with an estate lawyer or financial planner, and your family to determine which option is right for you.

A gift in your will—also known as a bequest—can be a simple and effective way to ensure your legacy lives on. It may also benefit your estate through charitable tax credits. You can designate a specific amount as a gift, designate a percentage of the residual assets as a gift after all other financial commitments are met, or designate a gift of property or securities as a gift.

A gift of life insurance can be a great way to remember Fanshawe in your estate plans while enjoying tax benefits throughout your lifetime.

  • There are different options to make a gift of life insurance:
  • Purchase a new life insurance policy and name Fanshawe College as owner and beneficiary. You will receive annual tax receipts throughout your lifetime for premiums paid and Fanshawe will receive the death benefit;
  • Transfer ownership of an existing life insurance policy to Fanshawe College. You will receive annual tax receipts for premiums paid starting from when the ownership is transferred, and Fanshawe will receive the death benefit;
  • Donate a paid-up policy that you no longer need. Fanshawe will issue you a tax receipt for the assessed fair market value at the time of the transfer.

To learn more about how you can share your passion for education with future generations through your will or life insurance, please contact us at 519-452-4112 or giving@fanshawec.ca.

Fanshawe College wants to recognize the thoughtful donors who plan future gifts. Let us know about your plans, so we can include your name (or a name of your choice) on a special donor display in the College. We'll keep you up-to-date on College news and invite you to special events. By planning a future gift, you become a very special part of the Fanshawe family now.

Give in memory or in tribute

Giving in memory is a thoughtful way to honour and remember the life of a friend or family member. It’s also a way to express your sympathy toward surviving friends and family members while making a meaningful difference at Fanshawe.

Giving in tribute allows you to mark an important occasion or celebrate someone special. It leaves a lasting impression whether you're honouring a family member, friend or co-worker.

Make a gift in memory or in tribute, please contact us at 519-452-4112 or giving@fanshawec.ca.

Make a gift of securities

By donating securities directly to Fanshawe College instead of selling the securities first, you can make a meaningful gift to support education that can also benefit your tax planning.

To learn more about giving through securities, please contact us at 519-452-4112 or giving@fanshawec.ca.
