In 2016, Caelan Hagerty was diagnosed with psychotic depression at the age of 13. After years of navigating a terrifying journey through the mental healthcare system, Aimee, Bill and Caelan, along with their family friends, Stuart du Kamp and Russell Levangie, created Foundation Sixty6.
Foundation Sixty6 aims to bring accessible and affordable mental health care to young people (aged 16-25) living with psychotic depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and other severe mental health challenges. This will be achieved by creating a network of physicians and mental healthcare providers who will offer counseling services for free, or at a reduced rate, and by generating donations and/or funds to support that access.
Foundation Sixty6 also believes in sustainable futures and is committed to establishing a network of companies willing to offer employment to those battling the impacts of psychotic depression and by doing so, provide them with the stability and support they deserve.
Project Summary
Working as mini-studios, level four students from the Interactive Media Design program developed a marketing campaign for Foundation Sixty6. The campaign included logo design and branding, a website, marketing and advertising solutions and social media content.
The Challenge
Students were tasked with developing a logo and branding that would resonate with young people (aged 16-25) living with severe mental health challenges, including psychotic depression, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia. The brand needed to convey a sense of openness and welcome, while also incorporating the significance of the number 66, representing the 6 founding members and Caelan's jersey number.
After establishing the brand, the next challenge was to create strategic advertising to encourage youth to seek help and inform them that support is available.
Finally, the students were challenged with creating a website to raise awareness about the foundation's cause, drive donations and build a network of doctors and volunteers.
The experience working with the Interactive Media Design department, from coordinators to the students was a life-changing, amazing experience. To partner with such an amazingly diverse, but similarly passionate group of people, all united in a common goal to try and change the world—wow! How often in a lifetime do people get that chance?
The Solution
Foundation Sixty6 selected two student teams to implement their marketing campaign and website concepts.
Foundation Sixty6’s goal is to hire a team of four or five to put the finishing touches and tweaks on their media content, so they can launch the Foundation’s official website in August. Foundation Sixty6 is hoping to hire Fanshawe students to assist with the website launch.
Observing the students collaborating with Foundation Sixty6 has been an inspiring journey. Their creativity and skill have been truly outstanding. Working with a live client on a multidisciplinary project of such meaning and significance provides the students with invaluable real-world experience, while also making a positive impact on society as a whole.
