Fanshawe College is pleased to announce the appointment of two new deans to the College’s academic leadership team.

Dean, Faculty of Health, Community Studies and Public Safety
Tony Mallette has been appointed dean of the College’s Faculty of Health, Community Studies and Public Safety, effective February 21, 2023.

Mallette has worked at Fanshawe since 2020 as associate dean, School of Health Sciences and was appointed acting associate dean of the School of Public Safety in July 2022.

“During his time at Fanshawe, Tony has built and enhanced strong relationships with members of the College’s senior leadership and commands tremendous respect from faculty and community partners,” says Gary Lima, Fanshawe’s senior vice-president, academic services. “He is an outstanding choice to lead the Faculty of Health, Community Studies and Public Safety.”

Mallette has served in various roles within the Ontario college system for over 18 years. Prior to joining Fanshawe in 2020, he held leadership and faculty roles at other institutions that represent both large and small college communities. He has gained extensive experience in a broad range of college programs, and leads with a focus on quality, innovation and simulation methodologies, while nurturing community relationships to support these programs.

Mallette serves on several boards and committees both inside and outside the College. Currently, he sits on the board of directors for the Ontario College Administrative Staff Association and two committees at London Health Sciences Centre.

Mallette earned a master’s degree in adult education from Yorkville University and a bachelor of arts from the University of Windsor. Prior to his work in academic leadership, he excelled as an advanced care paramedic in the County of Lambton and was proud to serve as a front-line paramedic for almost 20 years.

“I am extremely humbled and excited to be moving into this role at such a pivotal time in our sector,” says Mallette. “We are presented with an unprecedented opportunity to work directly with our industry partners to create new and innovative ways to maximize student success, build new programs and rebuild our depleted workforce.”

Dean, Faculty of Creative Industries
Silvana Macdonald has been appointed dean of the College’s Faculty of Creative Industries, effective March 20, 2023.

Most recently, Macdonald served as dean of the School of Health, Community Services and Creative Design at Lambton College. Among her accomplishments in this role, she was responsible for the successful submission and application of Lambton College’s first degree program, provided oversight for the development and launch of multiple new programs and supported the development and launch of micro-credentials.

“We are delighted to have Silvana join the Fanshawe team as dean of the Faculty of Creative Industries,” says Lima. “Her experience and talent will bring immense value to the College and we are very excited to welcome her.”

Macdonald has served in various leadership roles within the Ontario college system for more than 15 years. Prior to her appointment as dean at Lambton, she served as associate dean in the college’s School of Health, Community Services and Creative Design. She previously held appointments with Fleming College and York University, and has extensive teaching experience at the post-secondary level.

Macdonald earned a PhD in psychology from York University and a master of arts degree from Wilfred Laurier University. She has a number of scholarly and published works to her name.

"I am very excited to be joining Fanshawe College as dean of the Faculty of Creative Industries,” says Macdonald. “I look forward to working with faculty and staff across all the innovative and exciting programs offered across multiple campuses. Fanshawe College is well known for its commitment to excellent programming and student success. I am thrilled to be joining this forward-thinking and progressive community of educators and professionals."
