Project Summary
The project involved a two-week training program for 33 participants from six polytechnic universities in Mexico. The program focused on innovation in post-secondary education and provided hands-on training in the aerospace, automotive and 3D animation sectors.
The Challenge
Mexican educators and students face challenges in accessing advanced training and exposure to cutting-edge technologies. There is a need to build a culture of innovation, enhance leadership skills and improve change management practices in post-secondary education. Additionally, students require practical, hands-on experiences to understand and apply advanced technologies in their respective fields.
The Solution
The program provided a two-week in-person training in Canada. Thirteen students focused on the aerospace and automotive sectors, learning about advanced composite materials, product testing, welding technology, and material testing. They also visited three Ontario-based aerospace and automotive industries, gaining exposure to Canadian industry practices and advanced technologies. Eight students received training in 3D animation, covering conceptualization, 3D modeling, sculpting, texturing, rigging, storyboard development, motion capture, retargeting, animation polish, and presentation preparation. They applied their newly acquired skills and teamwork to create a short animated film titled “LAPARADA”. Participants improved their English communication skills through immersion in an English-speaking environment and gained inspiration and knowledge to apply advanced technological practices in Mexico. The group was accompanied by Pamela D’Abbadie, the international coordinator from one of the Mexican universities. Overall, students developed competencies necessary for success in an increasingly technological global workforce.
