Fanshawe’s Huron/Bruce regional site is partnering with the United Brotherhood of Carpentry (UBC) Local 2222 to meet local demand by offering a new Carpentry and Renovation Techniques certificate program beginning in September 2021.
The 30-week program, delivered in an interactive classroom at the UBC Local 2222 training facility in Kincardine, will focus on residential construction projects from layout to framing. Students will gain knowledge in reading blueprints, building code requirements, construction methods, building materials, tools and jobsite safety.
Heather MacKenzie-Card, program manager of Fanshawe’s School of Access Studies and Regional Delivery, says graduates will be prepared for a variety of well-paying and in-demand jobs in residential construction and renovation in Bruce and Huron counties.
“We take pride in helping unlock the potential of our students and the communities we serve through a promise to educate, engage, empower and excite in everything we do,” says MacKenzie-Card. “Community collaborations like this help us deliver on that promise by providing exceptional learning experiences for our students that address a community need.”
“We are thrilled to partner with Fanshawe on this initiative to provide training opportunities locally in our communities helping create the next generation of skilled tradespeople,” says Ryan Plante, local union coordinator with UBC Local 2222. “This program will help support the growing need for skilled tradespeople in the area.”
