Fanshawe College is pleased to offer a free online program aimed at providing seniors with the technology skills they need to be independent, included and informed in today’s high-tech environment.
The Technology Essentials: Virtual Programming for Seniors program will run from now until August 25, 2021, and is open to all seniors. Fanshawe student volunteers will provide learning support to all participants during the program.
The Technology Essentials: Virtual Programming for Seniors program, offered through Fanshawe’s Corporate Training Solutions and funded by the Government of Canada's New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP), targets vulnerable populations and provides opportunities for participants to take the program in a self-paced learning environment. Students will take ten mini courses that range from basic introduction to computers, Windows and word processing to searching the Internet, using email, tablets, smartphones, applications and social media. There are 25 spaces available in this program. Students will receive an e-badge for each course completed and a certificate of completion from the College when all courses are completed.
"This program provides seniors with an opportunity to gain fundamental technology skills to stay connected in our everchanging world and Fanshawe student volunteers have an opportunity to give back to the community by providing participants with tech support as they learn. The goal is that the intergenerational social connections made through this program will have a positive outcome for all participants involved," says Candace Miller, senior manager, Strategic Initiatives and Business Development.
Seniors who are interested in the program should email cts@fanshawec.ca or call 1-844-287-3267.
