On Saturday, April 17, 2021, Fanshawe College will host the TD Environmental Design Competition. TD Bank Group is lead sponsor for the competition.

This year’s theme is “Environmental Design Responses to the COVID-19 Pandemic.” A keynote presentation on the theme from Trevor McIntyre, director at IBI Group, will be held at 9 a.m.

The competition is open to students from post-secondary institutions across Canada who are studying landscape architecture, urban design, architecture, environmental design and related programs. Students will present environmental designs illustrating the design analysis, ideation and visualization of a solution to the COVID-19 pandemic to imagine how our natural, urban or rural environments could function and what they will look like in the future.

“Environmental and urban design students and practitioners are thinking about design responses to the global pandemic,” says William Pol, professor in Fanshawe’s Honours Bachelor of Environmental Design and Planning program. “We are still in the midst of the outbreak and recovery seems a long way in the future. This idea competition invites students to imagine and design new environments in which to live, work, learn and play during and after this pandemic.”

"At TD, we are committed to investing in programs and initiatives that help build strong communities, where everyone can feel confident in what tomorrow brings,” says Carolyn Broughton, District Leader, TD Bank. “We are proud to support the TD Environmental Design Competition in partnership with Fanshawe College. It's just one of the ways we are helping to open the doors to a more inclusive and sustainable tomorrow."

The event is open to the public. Those interested in attending can contact William Pol at wpol@fanshawec.ca for details.
