| SFTY-1023 | Health & Safety-Level 1 | 3 | ||
| Upon successful completion of this course the student will be able to evaluate safe working practices in the workplace and be able to perform cleaning/sanitization procedures according to related government legislation, including MOL, WHSR, JHSA, WCB. Students will also complete basic training in WHMIS and MSDS. Students will be able to describe the principle of infection, also principles of disinfection. Students will evaluate situations of harassment and disrespect, following school regulations. | ||||
| AEST-1032 | Hair & Scalp-Level 1 | 3 | ||
| Upon successful completion of this course the student will be able to perform a scalp and head massage. The student will be able to perform a shampoo service, analyse the scalp and hair and recommend products for a salon service or for a home maintenance package. In addition, students will be able to recognise common scalp and hair disorders and recommend appropriate treatments and use a variety of tools to set hair. | ||||

| Upon successful completion of this course, the student will reliably demonstrate the ability to identify, select and use a variety of tools to cut and style hair either wet or dry according to the needs and expectations of the client or their own recommendations. They will also be able to perform a variety of detailing and texturizing on wet and dry hair based on the texture, density, porosity and face shape of the client. | ||||
| AEST-1034 | Chemical Texture Services Level 1 | 5 | ||
| Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to perform proper client consultation including release forms and hair analysis for a chemical texture service. They will be able to explain and describe the physical and chemical actions that take place during permanent waving. The student will be able to choose and perform a basic permanent wave following manufacturer's directions. | ||||

| Upon successful completion of Level 1 Colour and Lightening Hair the student will be able to apply to consult with a client and do simple colour formulations to meet clients expectations. They will be able to apply a temporary, semi permanent or permanent colour to the hair. The student will also be able to lighten, tone or do a bilevel colour or highlight using a variety of basic techniques. | ||||

| Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to describe and simulate all the soft skills needed in the salon business such as communicating with clients, co-workers, and employers. They will be able to describe the roles and responsibilities associated between the employer and apprentice and will be familiar with professional ethics within the workplace. | ||||

| This course introduces students to essential principles of reading, writing, and reasoning at the postsecondary level. Students will identify, summarize, analyze, and evaluate multiple short readings and write persuasive response essays to develop their vocabulary, comprehension, grammar, and critical thinking. | ||||

| AEST-3007 | Hair & Scalp-Level 2 | 3 | ||
| Upon successful completion of this course, students will expand and fine tune existing skills of setting and styling short and long hair using a variety of tools according to employer standards and client requirements. Students will be able to describe basic anatomy including the systems and organs of the body. They will understand and demonstrate how to execute a basic manicure and be able to identify several nail disorders. They will also understand the basics of electricity, safety issues and a variety of additional spa services and their relationship to the hairstylist. Students will be introduced to green initiatives that are taking place within the industry. | ||||
| AEST-3017 | Hair Cutting & Styling Level 2 | 12 | ||
| Upon successful completion of this course the student will reliably demonstrate basic barbering techniques including fades, tapers, and clipper haircuts using a variety of tools according to the needs and expectations of the client. They will also start to cultivate an understanding of disconnected and perform intermediate level high and low elevation haircuts. In addition, students will demonstrate the ability to use standard and specialized techniques such as braiding and finger waves to style hair wet and dry. | ||||

| Upon successful completion of this course the student will reliably demonstrate the ability to perform a soft curl using current and relevant methods of wrapping according to the hair type and style. They will demonstrate how to chemically relax or smooth hair by selecting and applying the relevant knowledge and the skills with the chemical products and techniques to meet the needs and the expectations of the client. Students will also demonstrate basic pinning techniques in order to execute a variety of basic short and long hair up do's. | ||||

| On successful completion of Level 2 Hair Colouring and Lightening, the student will be able to predict the natural underlying pigment of hair and how it will influence the colour results. They will be able to formulate colours to achieve coverage of gray hair, lightening of blonde and red hair. They will be able to lighten and tone a client who requires a double process colour as well as perform a prepigment and tint back procedure. Students will have the opportunity to perform a high light or low light technique using foil, and observe decolouring options. | ||||

| Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to distinguish between warm and cool skin tones. They will be able to recommend and apply appropriate foundation, eye, and cheek and lip colour. Students will have the opportunity to perform bridal, evening and photographic makeup as well be able to perform facial waxing services. In addition, students will be able to recognize common skin disorders and perform a basic facial. | ||||

| Upon successful completion of this course, the student will reliably demonstrate the ability to choose, compare and contrast fiber types, application procedures, specialized tools and maintenance procedures when working with hair additions. They will execute a trend haircut and style in a completion atmosphere as well as developing a full portfolio of their work. Students will be able to cultivate, understand and design advanced level haircuts and finishing techniques using a variety of tools and products according to the needs and expectations of a client. | ||||

| Upon successful completion of this course, the student will master how to design curls and relaxing methods for additional advanced perm techniques to include a free style perm, spiral, root perm and weave. They will be able to recommend, design and execute all the necessary stages to meet their client's specific styling needs. They will be able to create a variety of natural, bridal and avant-garde up do's to achieve textural styles with movement and design. | ||||

They will perform current and relevant procedures to remove pigment to the level of colour desired as well as demonstrating how to control and prevent undesirable tones. | ||||

| Students will gain a better understanding of the meaning of dress as part of culture and society. Are we as individual as we think we are? Discussions include the 'rules' we follow, benefits and risks of dress, how our identity is developed through dress as well as how dress is relative to cultural, historical, social, and individual behaviour. | ||||

| Upon successful completion of this course the student will develop effective methods of complaint handling and the steps needed to resolve conflicts and human relation issues that pertain to the salon business. They will also learn how to professionally market and retail salon products as well as deal with all aspects of the front reception desk in a salon. They will learn and engage in effective communication skills needed for a job interview. | ||||

| Organizations and individuals need to be innovative to succeed in the complex and rapidly-changing global marketplace. In this course you will learn the fundamentals of innovation and how innovation applies to your discipline or field.Using this foundational knowledge, you will apply the novel and adaptive thinking processes and tools presented in the course to complete an innovative learning project in collaboration with other students.The project will be based on a real-world scenario with a defined scope as chosen by your professor. The project may involve external live clients and a multi-disciplinary approach.Throughout the course, novel and adaptive thinking skills as well as collaboration skills will be evaluated through self assessment.This course is designed to give students in certificate and diploma programs a foundation in innovative thinking. | ||||
