I chose to take part-time Ontario College Credential because I could continue to further my education while working full-time. Getting my degree has always been something I wanted to do, so to do this part-time with my flexibility of doing it on my schedule has been fantastic.

How does taking an Ontario College credential part-time work?

What is an Ontario College Credential?

Ontario College Credentials are approved by the Ministry of Colleges and Universities to meet certain criteria for completion. Fanshawe’s Ontario College Credentials include certificates, diplomas, advanced diplomas, bachelor's degrees and graduate certificates.

How do I apply for a part-time Ontario College credential program?

You must apply to part-time post-secondary programs through the Ontario College Application Service (OCAS). Because these programs result in an Ontario College Credential, your educational background needs assessment to ensure you meet the academic admission requirements of the program. Admission requirements are available on each program page on our website.

Not sure if you meet the requirements for your program? Book an appointment with an admissions advisor.

How long will it take to complete an Ontario College credential part-time?

The time required to complete an Ontario College credential program on a part-time basis is longer than a full-time program and depends on how many courses and consecutive semesters you choose to enroll in. As a part-time student, you can register for one to three courses each semester. There are three semesters in each year.

If you register for three courses each semester, here’s how long it would take you to complete specific Ontario College credentials:

  • Certificates - approximately two years to complete
  • Diplomas - approximately three years to complete
  • Advanced Diploma Completion - approximately two years to complete
  • Degree Completion - approximately two years to complete
  • Graduate Certificate - approximately two years to complete

How do I get financial assistance for a part-time Ontario College credential?

The Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) is available for part-time students. Find out if you’re eligible at osap.ca. You may also be eligible for certain bursaries through Financial Aid and Awards as well.

How are part-time Ontario College credential programs delivered?

Fanshawe has put together tools and resources under Online and Distance Learning to help you assess your online readiness, including a free online quiz at amiready.ca.

There are a few part-time post-secondary programs that are delivered in class for students to complete important lab or hands-on work that is required to graduate with the credential. Many in-class offerings are scheduled within evening hours to help accommodate busy schedules.
