This two-year operations and supply chain co-op diploma program will ensure you are prepared to join private or public sectors in this demanding field. Our supply chain co-op program will cover business theories and allow you to put them into practice. A paid co-op work term will provide you with valuable work experience for your resume. You will also examine goods and services sourcing, transportation methods, inventory techniques, retail management, analytical techniques as well as develop your negotiation skills.

Your Learning Experience

Graduates of this program may be eligible to transfer to the Honours Bachelor of Commerce (Management) at Fanshawe College and receive a one-year advanced standing. There are options to transfer to complete a degree program at many other post-secondary institutions or complement your diploma with a graduate certificate offered by the Lawrence Kinlin School of Business.

Previous Business Supply Chain and Operations Co-op students have received work term positions such as Purchasing Assistants, Logistics Interns, Production Planners, Inventory Coordinators, Distribution Administrators and Materials Coordinators / Expediters.  Co-op positions have been with companies such as 3M, General Dynamics, Trojan UV, Nova Chemicals, Peavey Industries, City of London, Stryker, RCMP, Startech.com, Magna and Walmart.   

Career Information

Graduates of Business - Supply Chain and Operations Co-op are prepared to enter the supply chain field in all sectors (e.g., manufacturing, health care, education, transportation, construction, government). Graduates are suited to a variety of entry-level positions including buyer, purchasing assistant, logistics coordinator, dispatcher, inventory analyst, shipper/receiver, transportation coordinator, material planner/expediter, production planner/scheduler, warehouse supervisor and operations coordinator.

Learning Outcomes

The graduate has reliably demonstrated the ability to:

  1. Examine the connections between strategic objectives, stakeholder expectations, and the functions, processes and roles within a supply chain, to support decision-making, problem solving and completion of tasks;
  2. Support supply chain business operations using accounting and financial analysis;
  3. Identify compliance issues within a supply chain to inform business operations;
  4. Identify risk mitigation tools and strategies to support business operations within a supply chain;
  5. Contribute to the acquisition and sale of goods, services and materials in accordance with best practices and stakeholder expectations across a variety of industries;
  6. Contribute to the planning and scheduling of material requirements and resource allocation, and the management of inventories, for efficient production and fulfillment of customer orders and returns;
  7. Coordinate the efficient handling and movement of goods, services, materials and related information within a supply chain;

  9. Use available technologies to enhance work performance and support supply chain functions, processes, transactions and communications;

Admission Requirements

Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), or equivalent, or a mature applicant with the following courses

- Grade 12 English (C or U)

- Grade 11 Math (C, U or M - minimum of 60%), or Grade 12 Math (C or U)

Students who do not meet the admission requirements are recommended for academic upgrading. A conditional offer may be possible with proof of enrolment. Alternatively, applicants missing the required courses may want to consider our one-year Business Fundamentals preparatory program. Upon graduation, students can enter level 2 of any business diploma program in the Lawrence Kinlin School of Business.

English Language Requirements

English Language Requirements

Applicants whose first language is not English will be required to demonstrate proficiency in English by one of the following methods:

  • A Grade 12 College Stream or University Stream English credit from an Ontario Secondary School, or equivalent, depending on the program's Admission Requirements
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) test with a minimum score of 79 for the Internet-based test (iBT), with test results within the last two years
  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic test with an overall score of 6.0 with no score less than 5.5 in any of the four bands, with test results within the last two years. SDS Program Requirements. 
  • Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) test with an overall score of 60 with no score less than 50 in any of the four bands, with test results within the last two years
  • Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE) with a minimum score of 53, with test results within the last two years
  • A Cambridge English Test (FCE/CAE/CPE) with an overall score on the Cambridge English Scale of 169 with no language skill less than 162, with test results within the last two years
  • An English Language Evaluation (ELE) at Fanshawe College with a minimum score of 70% in all sections of the test, with test results within the last two years
  • Fanshawe College ESL4/GAP5 students: Minimum grade of 80% in ESL4/GAP5 Level 8, 75% in ESL4/GAP5 Level 9, or 70% in ESL4/GAP5 Level 10

  • Academic and Career Entrance Certificate (ACE): Business Mathematics course and Computer Skills course
  • Applicants who do not meet the stated admission requirements for the Business - Supply Chain and Operations (Co-op) program should apply to the one-year Business Fundamentals Ontario College Certificate program, Program Code BFS2.  The Business Fundamentals program is recommended for students who require or desire academic upgrading, particularly in Mathematics and English, before pursuing a business diploma program.  Students who successfully complete the Business Fundamentals program may be eligible for admission to Level 2 of any two-year business diploma program at Fanshawe College.
Advanced Standing

  • Applicants may apply for advanced standing on the basis of previous academic achievement at another institution and/or Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR). Advanced standing qualifies the applicant for direct entry to a second or higher level of the program.

Where the number of eligible applicants exceeds the available spaces in the program, the Applicant Selection Criteria will be:
  1. Preference for Permanent Residents of Ontario
  2. Receipt of Application by February 1st (After this date, Fanshawe College will consider applicants on a first-come, first-served basis until the program is full)

BUSI-1005Introduction to Business Processes3
This course explores the various functional areas of business in Canada and demonstrates the interrelationship among these areas. Students are introduced to many concepts, including major business trends, the role of government in business, marketing, operations, employee-management issues, financial resources management, business ethics and social responsibility.
ACCT-1100Principles of Accounting 13
This course introduces the student to the Principles of Accounting, and includes an exploration of the underlying concepts that guide the preparation of accounts for individuals and organizations. It is designed to teach the student, regardless of program destination, an essential life skill - an understanding of Net Worth, and its importance to business success and the financial well being of the individual.
WRIT-1032Reason & Writing Business 13
This course will introduce business students to essential principles of reading, writing, and reasoning at the postsecondary level. Students will identify, summarize, analyze, and evaluate multiple short readings and write persuasive response essays to develop their vocabulary, comprehension, grammar, and critical thinking.
MKTG-1012Principles of Marketing 13
This course is designed to provide an overview of the decisions that face Marketers in today's fast-paced and competitive business environment. Students will learn that marketing is not only advertising but a broad set of activities designed to satisfy consumer needs and wants. Students examine the information Marketers require for effective decision-making and learn the basic elements of the marketing planning process.
MATH-1052Business Math3
This course provides a review of basic arithmetic and algebra as well as providing students with mathematical tools and concepts needed for other college courses and in future employment. This course is to prepare students for later courses in Marketing, Business, Financial Planning, Accounting, Purchasing and Insurance.
BUSI-1060Strategies for Success1
This course presents and helps to develop some of the skills required to achieve academic and career success. Areas of focus include college resources, study skills, time management, academic integrity, emotional self-awareness and social skills development. Additionally, emphasis is placed on career readiness and preparation.
COOP-1020Co-operative Education Employment Prep1
This workshop will provide an overview of the Co-operative Education consultants and students' roles and responsibilities as well as the Co-operative Education Policy. It will provide students with employment preparatory skills specifically related to co-operative education work assignments and will prepare students for their work term.
