Micro-credential Series Description

This series is designed to introduce students to the art of podcasting. Podcast listening is a growing trend in Canada, and the 
emergence and data access across mobile devices has now made podcast consumption much easier to consume.  This micro-credential will introduce the hardware and software elements needed for podcast creation, and will help the learner develop audio production skills 
through hands-on learning experiences. Students will explore a variety of marketing strategies that build brand awareness, create 
revenue-generating opportunities and measurable sales solutions. Whether you hope to be a successful independent podcaster, get 
picked up by a distributor, or find a job in podcasting, this series will give you the business skills to be successful in your 
current work or as a podcasting entrepreneur.

Podcasting
Take all of the following Mandatory Courses:
RCRD-1014Podcasting - Introduction
This course is designed to introduce students to the art of podcasting. Designed as a foundational course, and one in a series of course offerings, students will explore current podcasting trends, identify the various presentation styles, and source and prepare audio stories in written form. Students will be able to apply course content to their current work or as a podcast entrepreneur. Learning Outcomes: 1. Identify the many styles and approaches to podcasting. 2. Target podcast content to desired audiences. 3. Adapt the art of storytelling to create impactful messaging. 4. Source reliable podcast content from a variety of media platforms. 5. Critically analyze podcasts for their effectiveness. 6. Monetize podcasts for business and promotional development. Total class hours - 10.
RCRD-1015Podcasting - Technical
Podcast listening is a growing trend in Canada, and the emergence and data access across mobile devices has now made podcast consumption much easier to consume. Learning Outcomes: 1. Identify the necessary gear for podcast production 2. Explain proper mic placement/usage for podcast recording 3. Demonstrate the ability to record and edit a short interview using proper audio editing techniques 4. Demonstrate the ability to create podcast imaging elements 5. Assemble a finished podcast Total class hours - 12
BUSI-1216Podcasting - Monetization
This course is designed for students who have the storytelling and technical skills to produce a professional podcast, and want to develop the marketing and entrepreneurial skills required to attract an audience, maintain currency, and generate revenue through advertising and sponsorships. Students will explore a variety of marketing strategies that build brand awareness, create revenue-generating opportunities and measurable sales solutions. Whether you hope to be a successful independent podcaster, get picked up by a distributor, or find a job in podcasting, this course will give you the business skills to be successful in your current work or as a podcasting entrepreneur. Learning Outcomes: 1. Establish a strong, relevant and unique podcast brand. 2. Identify the various approaches to monetizing podcasts. 3. Develop ad campaigns tailored to promote the podcast's overall objectives and attract a variety of audiences. 4. Develop ad campaigns tailored to the client's needs while complimenting the podcast's overall objectives and desired audiences. 5. Expand the podcast's reach by utilizing social media influencers.
