MRIP-6006 | Patient Care & Safety for MRI | 3 | ||
This course provides the fundamental patient care skills necessary to maintain a safe environment for patients as well as other persons in the MRI department. Students will be introduced to the role and responsibilities of an MRI technologist including abiding by the code of ethics and standards of practice. Students will also be introduced to MRI safety screening, zoning, bioeffects and emergency procedures in the MRI environment. Other patient care topics include: patient transfers, infection control, intravenous injections and pharmaceuticals related to the MRI practice. The knowledge and skills gained in this course will provide learners with the necessary skills to safety care for patients and other persons in any MRI department. | ||||
MRIP-6007 | Physics for MRI | 5 | ||
This course focuses on MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) physics and instrumentation/equipment. Topics include theory and application of MRI instrumentation, pulse sequences, imaging parameters and options, as well as their corresponding impact on image production and contrast. Principles of parameter manipulation, image formation, reconstruction, and analysis will be presented. | ||||
MRIP-6008 | Anatomy for MRI | 4 | ||
This course focuses on the study of human anatomy as seen in multi-dimensional planes for the neurologic, thoracic, abdominal, pelvic, musculoskeletal, and vascular systems. Application of anatomical knowledge will be applied to MR images and other clinical imaging modalities. | ||||

MRIP-6009 | Procedures and Research in MRI | 4 | ||
This course focuses on both procedures and research in MRI. The content covers clinical applications for cardiac, vascular and breast imaging. Several complex scanning options and post-procedural image processing (e.g., maximum-intensity projection [MIP], multiplanar reformatting [MPR]), Apparent Diffusion Coefficient [ADC] etc.) are covered. The course will also look at the role of research and advancing applications within Magnetic Resonance. | ||||
MRIP-6010 | MRI Clinical Preparation | 1 | ||
This course will facilitate the student in preparation for clinical practicum placements, including finalizing pre-placement requirements. Concepts pertaining to professionalism, communication, analysis and problem-solving and health and safety will be emphasized. | ||||
MRIP-6011 | Applied Science for Mri | 4 | ||
This course focuses on performance of MR imaging procedures related to the central nervous and musculoskeletal systems, and the neck, thorax and abdominopelvic regions. The content covers specific clinical applications, available coils and their use. Preprocedural considerations as well as patient positioning criteria and identification of landmarks that allow optimal visualization of anatomy/pathology are discussed. Content lists and explains anatomical planes considerations, as well as signal characteristics of normal and abnormal structures. Content identifies protocol considerations such as sequences and parameters used to create MR images. The content also introduces measures used to maintain image quality and minimise artifacts and Specific Absorption Rates (SAR). | ||||
MRIP-6012 | Pathology for MRI | 3 | ||
This course focuses on how to recognize common pathologies, anomalies, and conditions seen in MR imaging. Focus will be placed on diseases of the central nervous, musculoskeletal, respiratory and reproductive systems, and the neck, thorax and abdomen and associated vasculature. Knowledge of pathophysiology as it relates to the clinical procedures by evaluating images for normal results and variants will be applied. Learning will be enhanced by readings, in-class discussions and PowerPoint presentations. | ||||

MRIP-6014 | MRI Clinical Practicum | 27.75 | ||
The purpose of this course is to allow the student to apply the theoretical knowledge obtained during the didactic portion of the program to the clinical environment. The student will spend this time at an affiliated clinical hospital under the supervision of a clinical co-coordinator or staff technologist. | ||||
MRIP-6013 | MRI Consolidation and Review | 1 | ||
The purpose of this course is to review the material previously presented in the theory courses as well as the knowledge attained in the clinical practicum to help prepare the student for the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) national MRI certification exam. | ||||
