Using a sociological lens, this course introduces students to the Canadian social landscape and key societal topics. Students will learn about Canada's history and the experiences of various ethnic, linguistic, and racial groups within the nation. Through understanding the myriad dynamics of culture, socialization, and oppression, students will gain critical insight and holistic understanding of Canadian contemporary society. Topics relevant to race, gender, class, and immigration will be examined in the context of increased equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives within Canadian institutions.
CANS-6002Citizenship & Immigration in Canada3
What are the factors that have influenced Canada's ever-evolving immigration and citizenship policies and how do these factors influence us today? These are the two major questions that we will address in this course. In answering these questions, we will look at why immigration was central to Canada's nation-building, why there was backlash to immigration, and why World War II was a catalyst for change in Canadian immigration policies. Through understanding the past, we will learn about today's understandings of culture, society, politics, civic responsibility, and belonging in relation to Canadian citizenship and immigration.
COMM-6046Canadian Workplace Communications3
This course will introduce post-graduate level international students to communication within the Canadian workplace. Topics to be covered will include verbal, non-verbal and written communications, with a focus on cultural differences. In this course, students will learn how to create basic workplace messages (including social media), engage in workplace conversations, organize workplace meetings, and deliver informal presentations. Instruction will emphasize the importance of tone, audience, purpose, body language, word choice, and grammar in the Canadian context. Through group work, students will develop interpersonal strategies for common face-to-face workplace interactions. By the end of the course, students will be able to confidently engage in basic communication with co-workers, clients and customers in the Canadian workplace.
DEVL-6035The Canadian Workplace3
This course will teach post-graduate level students that are new to the Canadian workplace the fundamentals of job searching practices, the various processes related to applying to jobs, interview techniques and employer expectations when interviewing. It will also examine workplace culture and on-the-job expectations in order to be successful in Canada. Students will become familiar with their rights and employment standards in Canada, and specifically in Ontario. Students will be able to create targeted resumes for various levels of employment in Canada. Students will also be introduced to the importance and value of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion as it relates to workplace organizations. By the end of the course, students will have the necessary tool kit, including essential entry-level marketing documents and various resources to be successful, to begin their career journey in Canada.
DEVL-6036Post-Secondary Learning in Canada3
This course will prepare graduate-level international students for the learning environment in Canadian post-secondary institutions. Topics to be covered will include academic integrity, research methods and online learning. Students will learn to apply research, information evaluation and citation skills in addition to learning critical Academic Integrity principles. Students will also be exposed to common teaching and learning methods used in graduate certificate programs, including case-based learning, problem-based learning and experiential learning, and investigate relevant study skills and College resources that will support their learning and development Students will work individually and in groups, both in F2F and online learning environments, and will have ample opportunity for skill development that will support their success in future coursework.
POLI-6001Canadian Government & Politics3
Canada's governments and political systems are faced with the challenge of governing a diverse population who inhabit the second-largest nation in the world. Understanding those systems is key to living, learning and working in Canada. Students taking this course will learn the history and current status of Canadian political systems and leaders - from the foundations of the nation at Confederation to the policies and issues behind current government decisions. Students will understand the rights of citizens, the laws of the nation, the political parties that seek to govern us, our three levels of government, and how to engage with those levels for specific issues or needs. Throughout the course, students will learn how to find reliable Canadian media sources to develop the skills needed to critically analyse current issues and consider ways in which the political system could be improved - in part, by considering the policies and practices of other nations.

This course will introduce graduate-level international students to the Canadian health care system. Topics to be covered include the history of health care, provincial and federal roles and responsibilities, key health care occupations, provincial health insurance inclusion, and private health care in Canada. Students will also explore and debate current health care issues and trends. At the conclusion of the course, students will have the knowledge and skills to confidently navigate and access their provincial health care system for themselves and their families.

This course will introduce students to topics in regulatory document preparation such as standard operating procedures (SOP), records of training, batch documents, change control, stability documents, deviation, and investigation reports. Students will practice focused writing techniques appropriate to regulatory affairs.
HLTH-1302Introduction to Regulatory Affairs4
This course introduces healthcare product regulation Canada as positioned in a global market. It provides an overview of the lifecycles and regulatory processes of pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and natural health products, highlighting the principles and applicable legislation, regulations and guidelines that drive these processes.
LAWS-6043Principles of Cannabis Regulations3
Regulations surrounding cannabis production and processing will be explored. Fundamental aspects of internal and external laboratory auditing will be taught. Students will prepare an audit plan for meeting laboratory accreditation requirements. Bioethics will be introduced relative to the moral issues of cannabis regulatory compliance. Specifics of Cannabis testing requirements while following the Cannabis regulations are taught. Safe Foods for Canadians Regulations as it pertains to edible cannabis products are examined.
PHRM-1071Regulatory Affairs in Pharmaceuticals4
Course topics will include application and documentation processes involved in drug manufacturing, preparation and release of products by international standard requirement(ISO), specialized documentation for marketing of pharmaceuticals and biologics, and the socio-economic impact of introducing a new drug or biological therapeutic products (i.e. vaccines).

This course provides an overview of different chemicals and biological materials used in pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. Students will also learn about safety precautions and regulatory documentations of these materials, as well as Canadian regulatory processes about hazardous chemicals.
MGMT-6084Project Management4
This course introduces the essentials of the project management discipline, and prepares students to manage project teams, project schedules, budgets and quality requirements. Students learn the process of analyzing, creating and managing a functional project plan and the various project management processes for managing and controlling a project through to fruition. This course brings all of the Project Management Institute (PMI) knowledge areas of project management together into a consolidated whole, and gives the student an understanding of project management methodologies as well as the tools and techniques used to plan, execute and control various types of projects.
PHRM-1069Introduction to Capstone Project1
The purpose of a capstone project is to provide students with the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills learned across all courses in the program to a large-scale project that's reflective of a real-life work situation. This course is the first phase of the capstone project, where students will receive an overview of the project parameters and begin planning for both their individual and group contributions.
COOP-1020Co-operative Education Employment Prep1
This workshop will provide an overview of the Co-operative Education consultants and students' roles and responsibilities as well as the Co-operative Education Policy. It will provide students with employment preparatory skills specifically related to co-operative education work assignments and will prepare students for their work term.

This course introduces chemical and biological safety acts and regulations as outlined by PHAC, WHMIS, and PHO. It will explore regulatory approaches in different biotech industries (e.g. bio-containment area, sterile facilities). The course teaches and reinforces the need for ongoing professional development associated with occupational health and safety in a Canadian context.

Course topics will include importance of documenting the entire regulatory process, overview of the safety permit application and renewal process, practical guidelines for preparation and submission of TPP (Therapeutic Product Profile), internal audits, and relevant government agencies (PHAC).

This course will introduce bioethical considerations for life science industries. Students will explore the application of bioethics in different practice scenarios (e.g., sample collection, medical preference, clinical trial of therapeutics).

Course topics will include preclinical and clinical research practices in biotechnology companies, regulations specific to clinical diagnostic centers, medical device regulatory implications and the documentation associated with clinical research, and new device approval.
PHRM-1072QA in Pharmaceuticals & Life Science4
Course topics include preparation of quality control documentation at different stages of production and quality monitoring, the process of quality assessment in pharmaceuticals and biotechnology industries, and Good Laboratory Practice(GLP), Good Clinical Practice(GCP), and Good Manufacturing Practice(GMP) specific to pharmaceutical operations.
SFTY-6012Food Safety, Traceability & QA4
This course will introduce food regulations regarding food safety and good manufacturing practices (GMP), including HACCP and other globally recognized food safety systems. The student will build the skills required to enable them to prepare customized preventative control plans (PCP).
PHRM-3031Capstone Project3
This project-based course will engage students in completing a regulatory applicaton for a Canadian biopharmaceutical or biotechnology product. Students will plan the project steps and prepare the required documentation for each step. They will practice their presentation and negotiation skills periodically based on the faculty instruction.
