Wondering how to pick a career? Here’s how to get started!
1. Think about yourself
Which courses did you enjoy in high school? Was there a particular area that you leaned towards, such as creative courses or science/math courses?
What do you like to do in your spare time? Do you have any hobbies or activities you enjoy?
What sort of lifestyle would you enjoy - more of an office job or a hands-on job?
Take our Pathfinder quiz to learn about your personality and what types of careers suit your personality.
2. Narrow down your choices to find an area that interests you
Find out more about what jobs are available in that field.
Use Fanshawe's program list or digital viewbook tool to search different areas of interest and find out which career programs are available.
Each program page includes career information about some specific jobs you might be interested in upon graduation.
3. Consider taking a prep program where you can explore your interests and decide on a more specific career path

Start volunteering or get a high school co-op in your field of interest and see whether you like it. Ask your friends and relatives if they know anyone in your field of interest and set up a phone call or meeting with them to ask what their job entails. They may even let you "job shadow" them for a day!
Choose a college program with hands-on learning experiences, such as our prep programs or co-op programs, so you can get a feel for what the job is like and whether you'd enjoy it.
