RT Skills Essentials - Theory - Micro-credential

This micro-credential provides respiratory therapists with the required knowledge needed to safely perform procedures used in all settings. Learners will review equipment function, principles of operations, and safe application to patient care for patients of all ages. In addition, oxygen and aerosol delivery devices, airway equipment and adjuncts and ventilation equipment and strategies will be covered (as per the 2016 National Competency Framework). This micro-credential is intended for learners who want to refresh their knowledge and possibly transition into acute care. This micro-credential is delivered online, via FOL platform. Learning Outcomes: 1. Identify oxygen delivery systems clinical applications 2. Identify delivery systems, including medication delivery systems and their clinical applications 3. Describe clinical applications of airway procedure for insertion, maintenance, and removal of endotracheal and tracheostomy airways, to facilitate patient airway patency. 4. Identify the therapeutic need for suctioning of the oropharyngeal, nasopharyngeal, and tracheal airways, and breathing techniques to facilitate lung recruitment. 5. Identify strategies for initiation, maintenance, and removal of invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation, and their clinical applications 6. Identify principles of ventilated patient monitoring, including waveform analysis and identify patient-ventilator asynchrony. Total Class hours - 8.
