This course presents and helps to develop the skills required to achieve academic and career success. Areas of focus include college resources, study skills, time management, academic integrity, as well as emotional self-awareness and social skills development.
BUSI-1066Customer Service3
This course covers the concepts and skills needed for success in today's business environment including verbal and non-verbal communication, listening skills, and interpersonal skills. Emphasis is placed on dealing with customer service problems, how to handle conflicts, stress and service expectations in a diverse culture, and effective custom service management.
BUSI-1084Talking Business3
This course provides students with the oral communication skills necessary for entry-level positions in the retail and services sectors. Emphasis is placed on the practical application of oral communication techniques for a variety of business contexts and audiences: conversation, interviews, customer service interactions, meetings and presentations. The curriculum also addresses communication within a diverse workplace, ethical communications and non-verbal communication.

An introduction to computer applications is undertaken in its relation to general business practices. Topics include an overview of information technology using computers and printers, file management, and utilizing the Internet for research. Specific applications include Microsoft OneNote, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. The contents of lessons and projects simulate situations encountered in general business processes.
MATH-1168Mathematics Fundamentals3
This course is a preparatory mathematics course. It is designed to help students acquire the skill and understanding of fundamental mathematics and introductory algebra necessary for success in the subsequent course - Math 1052. The course includes basic arithmetic operations, fundamental operations and equations, and is intended to strengthen basic arithmetic skills within problem-solving contexts. Additional topics covered are: fractions and decimals, exponents, ratio, proportion and percent, and an introduction to algebra. Use of the calculator is integrated into the course content.
WRIT-1032Reason & Writing Business 13
This course will introduce business students to essential principles of reading, writing, and reasoning at the postsecondary level. Students will identify, summarize, analyze, and evaluate multiple short readings and write persuasive response essays to develop their vocabulary, comprehension, grammar, and critical thinking.

This course introduces the student to the Principles of Accounting, and includes an exploration of the underlying concepts that guide the preparation of accounts for individuals and organizations. It is designed to teach the student, regardless of program destination, an essential life skill - an understanding of Net Worth, and its importance to business success and the financial well being of the individual.
BUSI-1005Introduction to Business Processes3
This course explores the various functional areas of business in Canada and demonstrates the interrelationship among these areas. Students are introduced to many concepts, including major business trends, the role of government in business, marketing, operations, employee-management issues, financial resources management, business ethics and social responsibility.
MATH-1052Business Math3
This course provides a review of basic arithmetic and algebra as well as providing students with mathematical tools and concepts needed for other college courses and in future employment. This course is to prepare students for later courses in Marketing, Business, Financial Planning, Accounting, Purchasing and Insurance.
MKTG-1012Principles of Marketing 13
This course is designed to provide an overview of the decisions that face Marketers in today's fast-paced and competitive business environment. Students will learn that marketing is not only advertising but a broad set of activities designed to satisfy consumer needs and wants. Students examine the information Marketers require for effective decision-making and learn the basic elements of the marketing planning process.
COMM-1100Written Communication for Business3
COMM 1100 develops students' professional communication skills and furthers their knowledge of grammar, sentence structure, vocabulary, and composition skills. Students plan appropriate responses based on analysis of program-related problems and text. These responses include summarizing or rewording information and ideas, editing existing text, and composing responses. Assignments and tasks are based on program-related topics and include various business documents like emails, memos, and letters. A computer lab is used for writing assignments in a simulated work environment.
