Program Description

This program has been designed for learners who are interested in expanding their knowledge of painting and drawing at the introductory level. The courses in the program will provide students with the basic skills. The courses are delivered in-person in the fine art studio.

Program Requirements

Level 1
Take all of the following Mandatory Courses:
ARTS-2005Creative Drawing
This course is designed to develop observation and illustration skills. Working from objects, models and photographic reference, students will be introduced to the fundamentals of drawing. You will explore various media: pencil, coloured pencil and pen and ink. Pencil sketching skills lay the foundation for a good artist.
ARTS-3044Drawing Beyond Basics
This course is designed for students with a basic knowledge of drawing and perspective. The course will further develop observation and illustration skills working from still life, photography and models in a variety of materials.
ARTS-3020Painting Acrylic
Course will include the history and chemistry of Acrylic painting. Guided discussions of the advantages and disadvantages of Acrylic paint as compared to oil, egg tempera, watercolour and others. Practical hands on studio work.
ARTS-5009Painting Watercolour
A studio course designed to introduce students to a variety of painting techniques including colour and composition skills covering the watercolour medium.

Program Residency
Students Must Complete a Minimum of 2 credits in this
program at Fanshawe College to meet the Program Residency
requirement and graduate from this program
