Micro-credential Series Description

This micro-credential series will offer learners a comprehensive discussion of the common symptoms of dementia. Through virtual lecture, case scenarios, and discussion, learners will develop an understanding of eight common symptoms of dementia called the 8As of Dementia. Further, learners will develop practical skills to employ when responding to these common symptoms of dementia.

Symptoms of Dementia
Take all of the following Mandatory Courses:
GERI-1006Non-Pharmacological Mgmt of Dementia
This micro-credential will offer learners a comprehensive discussion of the common symptoms of dementia. Through virtual lecture, case scenarios, and discussion, learners will develop an understanding of eight common symptoms of dementia called the 8A's of Dementia. Further, learners will develop practical skills to employ when responding to these common symptoms of dementia. Learning Outcomes: 1. Identify the general symptoms of dementia 2. Explain the underlying causes of amnesia, aphasia, agnosia, apraxia, anosognosia, altered perceptions, attentional deficits, and apathy 3. Recognize outward behavioural changes observed when a person with dementia is living with each of the 8As 4. Apply and reflect upon evidence-based supportive strategies which can be employed to support a person who is living with each of the 8As of dementia Total class time- 6 hours
GERI-1007Behavioural Expressions and Dementia
Through virtual lecture, case scenarios, and discussion, this micro-credential provides tools helpful when navigating behavioural expressions often seen in people with dementia. Learners will develop a knowledge of common triggers of behavioural expressions and apply a range of tools to engage in behavioural planning, monitoring, and evaluation. Students will: 1. Weigh ethical considerations when modifying behaviours 2. Apply tools when conducting assessment and behavioural planning 3. Understand common triggers to behaviour change Total class hours - 6.

  10. Create and implement a behaviour plan
  11. Create and implement a caregiver plan
