Level 1
Take all of the following Mandatory Courses:
SFTY-1032Health & Safety-Level 12
Upon successful completion of this course the student will be able to demonstrate safe working practices in the workplace and be able to perform sanitisation procedures according to related health legislation.
BUSI-1085Salon Functions-Level 13
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to perform routine salon functions by communicating with clients, colleagues and co-workers.
AEST-1036Hair & Scalp-Level 11
Upon successful completion of this course apprentices will be able to perform a scalp and head massage. The student will be able to perform a shampoo service, analysis the scalp and hair and recommend products for a salon service or for a home maintenance package. In addition, apprentices will be able to recognize common scalp and hair disorder and recommend appropriate treatments. Students will also have knowledge and practical experience in wet and thermal curl placement and styling.
AEST-1037Hair Cutting & Styling-Level 15
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to set and creatively style a client's hair using a variety of styling tools. They will also be able to recommend a haircut and style based on a client's profile and hair texture. The student will be able to perform a basic cut for women, men and children to meet the client's specifications.
AEST-1038Chemical Texture Services-Level 13
Upon successful completion of this course, the apprentice will be able to perform proper hair analysis for a chemical texture service. They will be able to explain and describe the physical and chemical actions that take place during permanent waving. Apprentices will be able to perform a basic permanent wave following manufacturer's directions.
AEST-1039Colour & Lightening Hair-Level 14
Upon successful completion of Level 1 Colour and Lightening Hair the apprentice will be able to apply to consult with a client and do simple colour formulations to meet clients expectations. They will be able to apply a temporary, semi permanent or permanent colour to the hair to either remove natural or artificial pigment. Apprentices will also be able to lighten, tone or do a bilevel colour or highlight using a variety of basic techniques.

Level 2
Take all of the following Mandatory Courses:
SFTY-3008Health & Safety-Level 21
Upon successful completion of this course the student will be able to demonstrate continuing knowledge in government legislation including MOL, JHSA, WCB as well as WHMIS and a complete understanding of MSDS and its relation to the workplace. Safe working practices and knowledge of cleaning, sanitation, disinfection and infection control will be established. Students will also have an understanding of personal safety (including harassment), injury reporting, and recognizing emergency situations.
BUSI-3024Salon Functions-Level 23
Upon successful completion of Level 2 Salon Function Course, apprentices will be able to perform routine salon functions by communicating with clients, colleagues, co workers while managing front financial transactions. Student will be able to select and describe the Salon Business.
AEST-3011Hair & Scalp-Level 21
Upon successful completion of this course the apprentice will be able to provide scalp and hair treatments. They will be able to describe and recognize common disorders of the hair and scalp as well as be able to perform a basic manicure. Apprentices will be introduced to facial waxing as well as a basic facial.
AEST-3012Hair Cutting & Styling-Level 26
Upon successful completion of this course the student will reliably demonstrate basic barbering techniques including fades, tapers, and clipper haircuts using a variety of tools according to the needs and expectations of the client. They will also start to cultivate an understanding of disconnected cuts and perform high and low elevation haircuts. In addition, the student will demonstrate the ability to perform specialized techniques such as braiding, dreading, finger waves and pin curls. They will also have knowledge in the fitting of wigs and hair additions.
AEST-3013Chemical Texture Services-Level 22
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will know how to design curls and relaxing methods for additional advanced perm techniques including free style, spiral, root and weave perms. They will understand a soft curl procedure as well as how to use and recommend various thio, hydroxide and smoothing techniques. They will be able to recommend, design, and execute all the necessary stages in CTS to meet their clients specific needs. They will be able to create a variety of natural, bridal, and avant-garde up dos to achieve textural styles with movement and design.
AEST-3014Colour & Lightening Hair-Level 24
Upon successful completion of this course, the apprentice will be able to select and apply a colour to the level desired. The apprentice will also be able to lighten, tone, highlight, and lowlight hair or remove artificial pigment to the level of colour desired, as well as being able to perform practical solutions for basic and advanced colour correction.

program at Fanshawe College to meet the Program Residency
requirement and graduate from this program
