BSCI-1271Preparing for Fieldwork4
This pre-placement course will prepare students for their upcoming CICE field placements, related to each student's area of concentration. In this course students will identify professional verbal and non-verbal interpersonal skills, apply basic resume tips, be exposed to the London Transit Bus System online schedules, describe health and safety prerequisites for safe work guidelines and complete the application process to obtain a Vulnerable Sector Screening. Students will identify the importance of teamwork and attitude in the workplace. Students will also complete interviewing with Fanshawe College partners to secure each student's first field placement.
SKLS-1029Skills for College Success4
This course is designed to provide skills that will promote success in the college environment and beyond. The rights and responsibilities of being a student in the CICE program will be discussed. Students will be instructed on study skills, time management, problem solving, resiliency strategies, positive interpersonal skills, mind-set and reflection practices. The development of these skills will be accommodated in a group learning environment that encourages diversity and promotes individual strengths. Students will also be introduced to the services and activities that are available at the college. Students will create a Learner Portfolio of their skills and assessments that highlight their strengths to support their success. This portfolio will be an active document that other CICE courses will build upon in future terms.
COMP-1552Technology for Learning3
This course is designed to foster the transition of the student into a post-secondary learning environment using available assistive technology to enhance learning outcomes across the CICE program. Using CICE designated laptops, the student will have opportunities to demonstrate their ability to access and utilize Fanshawe Online and technology to accommodate their individual strengths and needs. Students will be oriented to word processing, keyboarding, and basic computing skills necessary to be successful within their core courses. Internet safety will also be discussed.

FLDP-1017Fieldwork A2.8
This course provides students with their first field placement experience in their concentration area. Students will demonstrate theory that was taught in the classroom and their pre-placement course. They will practice good working habits such as punctuality, attendance, following directions, completing work assignments, interpersonal communication, and overall skill development. Students will practice safe work practices and record weekly reflections for their CICE field placement journal.
BSCI-1237Self-Awareness & Advocacy4
Students will gain an understanding of the necessity of self-awareness in order to successfully advocate for themselves and to seek resources to support them in the workplace and/or community. Students will have opportunities to practice interpersonal skills across various settings, enhance professionalism, provide and accept feedback, and understand inclusion. This course will incorporate reflections on student experiences, conflict resolution strategies, advocacy strategies, and suggestions for effective participation in the workplace and/or community will be exchanged. Students will continue to learn and practice effective resiliency strategies to benefit mental well- being. Students will continue contributing to the Learner Portfolio.

Level 3

FLDP-3015Fieldwork B2.8
This course will be the first part of Fieldwork B. Students will begin field placement at a new agency, to identify a higher level of goals related to placement, good working habits such as professional conversations at work with respect of diverse opinions and values from team members, communicate knowledge of the placement agency, and begin to actively participate as a team member to relate workplace policies and procedures for safe work practices. Students will record weekly reflections in their CICE field placement journal and participate in a mid-term evaluation with the employer.
BSCI-1272Personal/Professional Independence4
This course will allow students to develop goal setting practices to assist them in realizing their future vision for their life. Students will identify and discuss valuable job skills and negative work behaviours to avoid. While actively working toward their personal and professional goals, students will continue to practice resiliency skills to address mental well-being. Students will utilize their interpersonal skills learned in a previous CICE course to network with people within the college and the broader community. Group work will facilitate the learning of the necessary skills for students to effectively work in a group environment while accepting and appreciating diversity. Students will also participate in mentoring first term CICE students. Students will continue contributing to the Learner Portfolio.

Level 4

FLDP-3016Fieldwork C2.8
This course will be a continuation of Fieldwork B at the same agency. Students will demonstrate their final set of professional goals, interact and respond professionally to written, spoken, or visual communication at the placement agency with team members and the public, implement the importance of appropriate and safe work habits and gain further knowledge of agency roles, routines, and programs. Students will record weekly reflections in their CICE field placement journal and participate in a final field placement evaluation with the employer.
DEVL-1042Transition to Community4
Students will reflect on their skills developed to learn about agencies and services available to support them in their transition to the community. It will assist the student in developing strategies for seeking employment, networking, updating their resume, creating a cover letter, preparing for interviews, and practicing interview techniques. Students will further develop networking skills through a practical networking experience. This course will also address the topics of workplace ethics, having friends in the workplace and the importance of professionalism and a positive attitude at work. Students will identify and employ project management skills and work as a team to plan, prepare, and host an event to network with potential employers and agencies and highlight their finalized portfolio and the CICE program.
