Your Learning Experience
The Community Integration Through Co-operative Education program (CICE) is a two-year, post-secondary, modified college certificate program designed for adults with developmental disabilities, acquired brain injuries, intellectual disabilities and other related learning challenges. The program provides students with an opportunity to enhance their academic skills through typical college classes, while developing vocational abilities through career related field placement opportunities.
Students choose an area of concentration from one of the following areas: Culinary, Photography, Recreation and Leisure, Early Childhood Education and Office Administration. Students take eleven courses in a selected area of concentration as well as six core CICE seminar courses, and three field placements distributed throughout their two academic years. Upon completion of the program, a student receives an Ontario College Certificate in CICE from Fanshawe College. They will have field experience in an area of interest that may assist them in locating employment in that vocational field upon graduating.
A team of Learning Facilitators provide students with in-class assistance and weekly tutoring outside the classroom. Learning Facilitators are responsible for designing and implementing any modifications or accommodations in course work that students may need based on their individual strengths. A Field Placement Coordinator will work with students to locate and develop work placements that are best suited for a student's strengths and goals.
Events
Virtual Information Night
CICE Info Night is for everyone who is interested in the program to attend. Whether it is prospective students, families, friends, everyone is welcome! Join us for the virtual session via the link below.
Shadow Days: A day in the life of CICE
This is a day when prospective students, their teachers and Educational Assistants (EAs) can get an idea of what College life is really like when attending the CICE program. During this day attendees will shadow a CICE student as well as a Learning Facilitator during classes (CICE and mainstream) and tutor sessions. Please email us at CICEP@fanshawec.ca to book a Shadow Day.
I chose Fanshawe College because I heard that it offered an amazing Social Services Worker program. I was introduced to my program by my support worker as an outlet to overcome the challenges and obstacles I have faced in my life living with a disability.
