Overview
Micro-credential Series Description
This series is designed for a working Medical Radiation
Technologist (MRT) looking to improve their skill set of providing
high quality images for diagnosis. Additionally, it is designed for
MRTs who have been away from the profession for some time and want
to upgrade their knowledge prior to returning, or for the recent
graduate MRT who has not found work and is looking at a refresher
course before applying for a position.
The MRT Microcredential Series consists of three individual
courses or badges. The courses are:
1. Musculoskeletal Pathology for the MRT
2. Image Critique of the Lower Extremity
3. Image Critique of the Upper Extremity
The Image Critique courses are designed to provide the staff
technologists with the knowledge to determine how to repeat a
specific view to provide a high-quality diagnostic exam for proper
diagnosis. An additional benefit for completing these courses is
the job satisfaction and confidence for the imaging technologist
that comes with providing optimal images for reporting. With the
pathology course, the more knowledge a technologist has regarding
pathology, the better the decisions that can be made regarding
whether to repeat an image or not. The confidence to know when to
repeat an image reduces the number of unnecessary repeats versus
providing an undiagnostic image to the Radiologist for
reporting.

Micro-credential Series Requirements
RADL-1020 | Image Critique of the Lower Extremity
Image Critique of the Lower Extremity is a microcredential designed to improve the Knowledge, Skills, and Judgement of a working Medical Radiation Technologist. Learners will review images from a PowerPoint presentation to determine corrective measures and to discuss best practices when imaging the lower extremity. Learners will learn to use previous images to adjust the technique for subsequent images within a specific series. Learners can also gain hands on experience in the MRT lab at Fanshawe College. Learning Outcomes: 1. Upon completion of this micro-credential, the MRT will be able to evaluate a variety of images of the lower extremity and make recommendations that will improve diagnostic quality. 2. Upon completion of this micro-credential, the MRT will be able to identify specific bony anatomy used to determine corrective measures. 3.Upon completion of this micro-credential, the MRT will identify how beam divergence, SID, and centering points can affect the proper demonstration of open joint spaces. 4.Upon completion of this micro-credential, the MRT will identify how to use previous images to alter the routine procedure. Total class hours - 4
RADL-1021 | Image Critique of the Upper Extremity
Image Critique of the Upper Extremity is a microcredential designed to improve the Knowledge, Skills, and Judgement of a working Medical Radiation Technologist. Learners will review images from a PowerPoint presentation to determine corrective measures and to discuss best practices when imaging the upper extremity. Learners can also gain hands on experience in the MRT lab at Fanshawe College. Learning Outcomes: 1. Upon completion of this micro-credential, the MRT will be able to evaluate a variety of images of the upper extremity and make recommendations that will improve diagnostic quality. 2. Upon completion of this micro-credential, the MRT will be able to identify specific bony anatomy used to determine corrective measures. 3. Upon completion of this micro-credential, the MRT will identify how beam divergence, SID, and centering points can affect the proper demonstration of open joint spaces. Total class hours - 4
RADL-1022 | Musculoskeletal Pathology for the MRT
Musculoskeletal Pathology for the MRT is a microcredential designed to improve the Knowledge, Skills, and Judgement of a working Medical Radiation Technologist. Learners will review images from a PowerPoint presentation to identify pathologies involving the bony skeleton. Learners will learn best practices/images to best display the pathology. Learning Outcomes: 1. Upon completion of this micro-credential,the MRT will be able to evaluate a variety of images to determine the pathology present. 2. Upon completion of this micro-credential, the MRT will have a better understanding of how beam divergence, SID, and centering points can affect the proper demonstration of open joint spaces. 3. Upon completion of this micro-credential, the MRT will identify what images require perfect alignment of structures to determine if a pathology is present. Total class hours - 4
