Micro-credential Series Description

The Supervisory and Leadership Series offers both knowledge and an opportunity to cultivate essential leadership skills. This program is designed to empower those who manage or lead teams with strategies to boost their personal effectiveness and elevate their team's overall performance. It outlines the core principles of inclusive leadership and explores key concepts surrounding diversity and equitable treatment. Leading by example, participants are encouraged to reflect on their ability to lead with empathy, fostering a team environment free of blame, judgment, or assumptions. Self-awareness and emotional intelligence are emphasized as crucial foundations for becoming a mindful leader, capable of nurturing a focused, creative, and thoughtful team. The series also explores transformational leadership, guiding participants in developing strategies to incorporate it into their professional settings. Additionally, the series acts as a tool for expanding knowledge of crucial legal and technical processes, aimed at building a healthy and resilient workplace in line with Ontario Labour Laws and modern leadership theory.

MGMT-1333Supervisory & Leadership Basics
A common assumption is that high performing individuals will transition easily from being a team member to a supervisor/team leader, but effective leadership and management require a diverse skill set. The Supervisor & Leadership Basics micro-credential provides those who supervise or lead teams with strategies for increasing their personal effectiveness as well as their team's overall performance. Through reflective practice and application of practical tools, participants will improve their ability to communicate, problem-solve, manage pressure, build trust and improve overall output by leveraging personal strengths of team members. Learning Outcomes: 1. Identify the differences between supervision and leadership and how to balance both sets of skills for maximum effectiveness 2. Reflect on their personal leadership style and apply practical techniques for maximizing personal performance 3. Develop tools for communicating and connecting with team members to enhance group performance Total class hours: 40
MGMT-1337Supervisory & Leadership Basics II
Successful front-line employees are often seen as prime candidates for supervisory and leadership roles, but moving from the front line to supervision / management requires additional knowledge and skills. Supervisor & Leadership Basics II provides high potential, recently promoted, or experienced supervisors additional foundational knowledge to further develop in their existing role or to prepare for future opportunities. Students will achieve focused learning outcomes such as key legal and technical knowledge to build a healthy and resilient workplace based on Ontario Labour Laws and current leadership theory. This MC will focus on important aspects of Health and Safety, Employment Law, and some associated aspects of Human Resources, specifically the responsibilities of the supervisor regarding Accident investigation; Introduction and Foundations in Ontario Employment/Labour Law; Performance Management; and writing and delivering Performance Appraisals. Learning Outcomes: 1. Recognize and interpret employment-related legislation 2. Recall the essential elements of Health and Safety Reporting 3. Identify (and briefly discuss?) the purpose of performance appraisal 4. Identify the necessary characteristics of accurate performance management tools 5. Discuss the options for what to evaluate in a performance appraisal. 6. Apply commonly used performance measurement methods and forms Total class hours - 20
