Taking a vacation can be expensive, but it doesn’t have to be! Here are three budget trip ideas.

Kayaking in Ontario

1. Ontario

Stay close to home! Day trips, renting a cottage or going camping are the best options for families on a budget.

Looking for a fun day trip? Niagara Falls or Elora Gorge offer many activities and scenic beauty. Toronto is also close by with lots to keep you busy for a day or even a weekend.

For foodie fans, the Niagara region or Pelee Island are great choices for a getaway - there is high demand for food and wine tours.

If you’re looking for a weekend away, look no further than cottage country. There are loads of options available in the Huntsville area. If you’re looking to kayak or hike, consider heading to Manitoulin Island.

United States

2. United States

While the Canadian dollar doesn’t allow much for a budget vacation, St. Petersburg and Clearwater provide the best value for your dollar in Florida.

Flight costs can make or break a trip on a budget. Myrtle Beach is within driving distance and can help you save on costs because you avoid having to pay for that additional transportation.

Europe

3. Caribbean or Europe

The Caribbean is off-season in the summer - Cuba and Dominican Republic have lots of family-friendly resorts to choose from.

Eastern European countries, such as Poland, Hungary or Czech Republic, are best for budget travel. These countries are less touristy so you can stretch your Canadian dollar further.
