Moving out of your residence or off-campus housing can be both an exciting and overwhelming experience. Whether you're graduating or simply relocating, the process involves planning and organization. From packing up your belongings to ensuring you leave your current place in good condition, there are many steps to consider. This comprehensive checklist is designed to help you navigate the move-out process smoothly and efficiently, ensuring you don't miss any important details. We are here to help make your transition as stress-free as possible!

Before Your Move

Packing Tips

  • Pack Room by Room: Start with less frequently used items.
  • Label Boxes: Clearly mark boxes with their contents and destination room.
  • Protect Fragile Items: Use bubble wrap, newspaper or towels to cushion breakables.

 

Declutter & Donate

Sort through your belongings and decide what to keep, donate, or discard. Here are some items you can donate and recycle!

  • Bottles
    • Students in residence can take part in Campus Security’s bottle drive which runs from March 18 to April 27, located at the front desk of R1, R2 and R3.
  • Non-perishable food items
    • Living off-campus? Non-perishable food items and toiletries can be donated to the Sharing Shop!
    • Living in residence? Drop donations off at the front desk in R1, R2 and R3.
  • Clothing
    • Living off-campus? Consider donating to Value Village, Goodwill, etc.
    • Living in residence? Drop off in the bins will be in R1, R2 and R3 from April 14 to 27, 2025 for donation.
  • Electronics
    • Staples and Best Buy both accept old electronics and used batteries for recycling.

Cleaning and Repairs

Off-Campus Garbage Collection

  • 3 Container Exemption – Week of May 7, 2025.
  • Large furniture and bulky item pick-up.
    • Booking requests must be completed at least 5 business days in advance either by phone at 519-661-2489 or online on the City’s service portal.
    • Collection will occur on your next scheduled garbage collection day. Large items are over 1 metre wide and 1.5 metres tall and generally require 2 or more people to safely place at the curb. Examples include mattresses, box springs and couches. There is a four-item limit per collection.
