Your Learning Experience
This professional two-year Ontario College Diploma program will set you up for a successful professional office administration career. Designed to provide students with an extensive and practical understanding of business operations, technology and processes, you will:
- learn how to oversee budgets, supervise and train others, organize meetings and make travel arrangements,
- gain skills to plan conferences, research ideas and produce professional documents and reports,
- develop your organizational skills, technical computer skills and enhance your verbal and written communication skills,
- study the importance of leadership while attending meetings at the London chapter of the International Association of Administrative Professionals, where you’ll network with professional office administration contacts in the industry, and
- gain valuable, hands-on experience during two paid co-op work terms.
Upon graduation, you’ll be prepared to pursue the Certified Administrative Professional (CAP) designation. You’ll also earn two courses toward a Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation from the Human Resources Professionals Association (HRPA).

The Office Administration – Executive program offers a cooperative education component, which provides students with the opportunity to gain invaluable first-hand experience within their chosen field. Here are some co-op jobs that have kick-started the careers of some Office Administration – Executive students before even graduating!
- Front Desk Receptionist - serves as the first point of contact providing clients with the best first impression
- Records Clerk - transfers paper records into a digitized filing system
- Executive Assistant - performs various office management duties and provides clerical support

Career Information
Graduates of Fanshawe’s Office Administration – Executive program will be capable of filling responsible positions as administrative assistants and office coordinators. Graduates can expect career paths advancing toward increasingly more responsible positions in senior administrative support and office management roles. Administrative professionals are required in all organizations, including governments, manufacturing, educational institutions and service providers.

The graduate has reliably demonstrated the ability to
1. conduct oneself professionally and adhere to relevant legislation, standards and codes of ethics.
2. manage the scheduling, coordination and organization of administrative tasks and workflow within specific deadlines and according to set priorities.
3. coordinate the collection, analysis, distribution and response to communications in the workplace to facilitate the flow of information.
4. operate and provide support related to the use, maintenance and procurement of office equipment and technologies.
5. evaluate, establish and administer a variety of records management systems* to ensure confidential, secure, accessible and organized electronic and paper records*.
6. produce financial documents and reports by identifying and compiling relevant information and using accounting software.
7. prepare and produce a variety of business documents using available technologies and applying industry standards.
8. use interpersonal, leadership and client service skills to respond to diversity and to support the vision and mission of the organization.
9. research, analyze and summarize information on resources and services and prepare summary reports with recommendations.
10. select and use information technologies to support communication with internal and external stakeholders and to promote the organization.
11. organize and coordinate meetings, conferences, special events and make travel arrangements, including the preparation of related documentation.
12. support the implementation of projects by applying basic principles of project management.

English Language Requirements
Applicants whose first language is not English will be required to demonstrate proficiency in English by one of the following methods:
- A Grade 12 College Stream or University Stream English credit from an Ontario Secondary School, or equivalent, depending on the program's Admission Requirements
- Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) test with a minimum score of 79 for the Internet-based test (iBT), with test results within the last two years
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic test with an overall score of 6.0 with no score less than 5.5 in any of the four bands, with test results within the last two years. SDS Program Requirements.
- Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) test with an overall score of 60 with no score less than 50 in any of the four bands, with test results within the last two years
- Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE) with a minimum score of 53, with test results within the last two years
- A Cambridge English Test (FCE/CAE/CPE) with an overall score on the Cambridge English Scale of 169 with no language skill less than 162, with test results within the last two years
- Fanshawe College ESL4/GAP5 students: Minimum grade of 80% in ESL4/GAP5 Level 8, 75% in ESL4/GAP5 Level 9, or 70% in ESL4/GAP5 Level 10

Employees require understanding and an ability to analyze accounting procedures as they relate to accounting principles.This course teaches students the accounting process from an administrative assistant's point of view for a service and merchandising business. Participants will learn to apply accounting theory and procedures to effectively record business transactions into the proper journal and ledger and to use this information to prepare accurate financial statements. You will learn the importance of adjusting and closing entries and the accounting terminology required to function effectively as an administrative assistant. | ||||

Keyboarding speed, accuracy, and technique, combined with word processing proficiency, are essential skills required to work in any type of business environment. Students will learn how to type starting from the home-row position and then progress to learning the alphabetic, numeric, and symbol keys. In addition, introductory word processing concepts and commands will be applied to the production and formatting of administrative documents. Students will apply proofreading techniques to type error-free business letters, flyers, tables, and reports. | ||||

This course provides an understanding of the field of organizational behaviour through investigating individual, group and organizational behaviours. Students assess their work-related preferences/behaviours using self-assessment surveys and reflect on the match between those and career choices. Students study organizational design, organizational culture, people-centred management, social perception, self-concept & personality, values/attitudes & job satisfaction, motivation theory, group development theory, effective communication strategy, and conflict & negotiation then apply these concepts to the development of an organization's human resources. | ||||
